low sodium rate

another worry has set in today after getting my last blood results!

My sodium level is still low (128). Only one digit higher than 3 months ago.

My GP says he’s not unduly concerned at this moment, and will re-test again in 3 months.

From what I’ve googled this low sodium can affect the kidneys and yet my kidney count was within the range (60-200) at 80ml!(I have no other symptoms)

I try to drink as much as I can, but maybe I’ve drunk too much water.

Can anyone else experienced this and how did you increase your sodium?

At the age of 70 why do I worry about any dratted thing🙄

chronic problem with me, long long story. Mine was too much fluid. How much do you drink? Also I was told that once it’s low, it might not rise to normal levels again. But mine was in I had to be hospitalized range. It runs around 134 now, took over a year to raise it to that level.

Hi Twopies. I had been drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water a day (at least!) plus about 3 cups of tea and some nighttime wine.

I do know that drinking lots of water is good for kidney function so I wouldn’t have thought the water I was drinking had been excessive. (eGFR is 80 - which is well within the range).

And I guess I have been subconsciously watching the salt labels on foods, so maybe I shouldn’t do that at the mo?

Drinking too much will lower your sodium and so will sticking to the dietary recommendations of low salt diets. We need more than they think.

we can’t win though, can we? They tell us to drink lots of water and then this happens!

I have been extra careful with salt intake, scrutinising every food label, etc. But I’m thankful my kidney function is well within the range at eGFR 80.

PS: PMRpro do you know why I didn’t get an alert of yours and Twopies message? I’m wondering if it’s because I posted in the ‘sodium category’ and maybe I should have posted it in the PMR section?

NONE of us are getting accurate notifications! I'm working from the Feed and it is an absolute pain! Do complain to HU.

My sister-in-law used to wax lyrical on the volume of water you see recommended we should drink, far too much. Like me she was a physiologist - in fact my husband and his brother were too - and some of the stuff you see in the media used to make our hair curl :)
