Hi all,I never bothered with omeprazole much until a few weeks ago when I started to get a bit of discomfort. Now I've been taking 20 mgs for a few weeks, whether it's anything to do with it or not, I've ended up with a really uncomfortable feeling in my mouth and hypersalivation, even though I read it can cause dry mouth . The extra saliva is driving me mad. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Omeprazole
Sounds horrible! Omeprazole is said to actually cause gastric problems in some people. There are a number of comments in 'Related Posts' - may be interesting for you to browse through some of them to learn of others' experiences. Here's one:healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk...
Excess salivation is known as 'water brash' and may be a side effect of Omeprazole:

Best to mention this effect to your GP or rheumatologist if Omeprazole is prescribed by him/her.
Hope you get this sorted out soon.
Has there been any suggestion of reducing the steroids? Omeprazole is to stop stomach problems which may be caused by the steroids. A lot of people get away with taking them with yogurt.
Im on 20mg omeprazole because of tummy bleed caused by meds . Dr not sure if cause was prednisolone or a statin they had introduced. Im ok with it but occasionally I get watery mouth and GP suggested to take gaviscon which seems to help
Thankyou for all your replies. Much appreciated.
I was initially put on Omeperazole by a rheumy in Maine when I started prednisone for GCA...looking back I think he had a 'standard procedure list'. My rheumy in Indiana took me off it and substituted sulcrafate (generic), Carafate (brand). Worked like a smooth charm with no side effects. Just sayin'. 💕
