DEXA scan....success

I asked for a DEXA scan a few months in to my PMR/GCA journey around 3.5 years ago. Thanks to the good advice on this forum I wanted to get a reading before I started with Alendronate. My gp felt it was unnecessary but I stood my ground. I was diagnosed with osteopaenia and so have been taking Alendronate since then. At my last GP visit I asked for another scan to see if it had made any difference. I now have a great GP. She looked it up and apparently the protocol is 5 years between scans but she was fully supportive and requested one. The rationale was to potentially eliminate a medication. I was delighted to get a scan within a few weeks and even more so when told I no longer have osteopaenia and can stop the Alendronate. Without this forum I would probably have assumed I needed to carry on taking it as long as I was on pred. Thanks for all the great advice especially to those who give up so much of their time to help us all.

Great result. Good on you for sticking with it.

I am so glad you no longer need Alendronate Acid and you have a sensible GP. A friend mentioned she had been taking it for thirteen years and her GP had done nothing about it just prescribed it.
