Last week when I went to the neuro-opthalmologist, we had just experienced some 90+ degrees days in Indiana, USA. Even though my optic nerve and visual field scan had not changed, I had more trouble reading the eye chart. The doctor explained Uhthoff's phenomenon to me when I said my right eye was a bit blurry from time to time and just didn't seem as sharp..."Transient right eye visual blurring due to changes in core body heat" was written on my visit notes. This is from the internet:~~
What does Uhthoff's phenomenon feel like?
Uhthoff's phenomenon or Uhthoff's sign is the temporary worsening of MS symptoms caused by an increase in temperature. It is usually applied to optic neuritis and other visual symptoms but can also refer to fatigue, pain, balance, weakness, bladder issues, cognitive or sensory symptoms. (Web.MD)
I've typed on and off since the '50s....I find I type more accurately and faster if I shut my eyes. It gives my brain a break! I typed all this with both eyes closed...try it!
I always feel better when I know what is going on....so I thought I would share. Now I understand the temporary difference....I'm good~!๐

Grammy, you are incredible!-not only for your sharp brain and fortitude but also for your touch typing skills. I cqn varly manij widh twq singers qith mu eyws olen.Stay cool. xx
๐๐๐ Same here! I learned to touch type in my teens - and actually had a secretarial job in the university for about four years. However, since iphones and pads I use only one finger to type now - and even then I often manage to fit two keys at once, and my fingers are not that fat either!!
I couldnโt do without my ipad for anything. I can carry it everywhere (even in a larger handbag when I go anywhere). I have over one hundred books with me if ever I stay in a hotel, etc etc.
I used to have an Apple keyboard too but now I simply type on screen. One- fingered, like you (one on each hand, that is), and Iโve got pretty fast ๐x
My books are on the Kindle. My laptop is bigger than an iPad but very portable. We just never got "in" to Apple - few of our science colleagues did because at first they weren't really compatible with Word, enormous files when you converted them. And they aren't cheap ...
Not so very expensive now - as long as you donโt get the newest pads/phones. I usually buy one that was โbrand new - best phone/pad everโ one which is now 2 or 3 years old. I donโt need extra quick, more updates, etc etc.
Amazon is the answer! They even offer books at $0.00 for the Kindle, I don't have a Kindle but have downloaded the Kindle app on my devices. Good luck with a better selection.๐
I'm a speech to type person on my phone...but it can be emabarasing if you don't spell check! I'm a clod unless I have a keyboard which I have for my IPad. Technology can be awesome !!๐
Priceless....even though it is jumbled we could all read the sentence!!! The brain is an amazing organ! So...you can barely manage with two fingers with your eyes open....good one~!๐
Yes, Pro, knowing is everything to me...then I can just put it on the shelf. As for the typing...I've been doing it since 1954, ---YIKES!! It is all imprinted on my brain!๐๐ตโ๐ซ
True...but I sure did forget how to balance a bike~! When I was almost 60, I bought a used (thankfully) two wheeler and promptly landed on the pavement. So much for that...๐
I love this doctor....so bright and low-key, just the facts. He always scheduled me for 60 minutes in the morning because he had medical students there. He had asked me if I would mind their examining me after him...they find the optic nerve in the blind eye...and then in my good eye, that one has spots. I'd drafted all the papers to donate my body to a medical school that was put on hold because of the virus but I may check it out again. Be well๐
I am blown away by your ability to touch type with the keyboard unseen. There was an attempt to teach me in my youth as part of a government office practice course, when I was very young. The typing and shorthand didnโt really take, but it led to a civil service career and a very welcome allowance at the time.
Of course. I just meant the training allowance was a bit more than unemployment benefit ( I was a lone parent). Sorry, as my granddaughter says โ Iโm blabbering. ๐
You must download Grammarly, it corrects everything!! Some folks just use spell check, but I like that program since I dabble in writing memories since my family gifted my with Storyworth, I love it.๐
I edited to add....I don't think I can spell anymore nor do I have to!!!
