Pred withdrawal itch

Hi all, I’m doing a very gradual reduction of prednisolone and am down to 4 mgs after 4 yrs. but I’m itching all over, with spots at the base of my skull and extra itchy at base of spine. Is this something I just have to get through? Is it normal please?

Nothing like an itch you shouldn’t scratch! Whilst people do complain, commonly it seems, of allergies when they get to low doses of Pred I’d get this looked at. The reason being the specific localised areas of rash might be indicative of something else. What do the spots look like and are you ok in every other way?

Would have said no, but this post came up recently, so it might help-

I think you should check with gp -I had anti histamine and betnovate for itching

Itching started for me too as I got to 4mg (currently slow tapering from 4 to 3.5). Mine is mainly in the left thigh and on waking. It subsides an hour or two after Pred.

Thanks for ur replies. I saw GP and the rash is now only at the top and bottom of my spine. I’m using Dermacool 5% and taking Piriton, The cream does exactly what the name says!! My inflammatory markers were up for the first time in ages, but not surprising really
