Six weeks have passed since I had my fall. The mattress and cushion, to relieve pressure sores was really a godsend, although I still needed to apply lots of cream. During these weeks I’ve been doing physio exercises 3-4 times daily. Two weeks ago I was referred to NHS Physio, Peter, he is wonderful, suggested exercises, plus advising I bought a pulley that goes over the door for strengthening my shoulder. On 6th April I saw my consultant, he was pleased with my progress, advised me I could remove the sling and start sleeping lying down. The pressure mattress was removed and I blissfully got into my comfortable bed, it was pure luxury.
Today I looked back over the past weeks and realise I can now
Put clothes on with sleeves
Tie my laces
Put socks on
Wash my hair in the shower (putting the shampoo on before I get in)
Able to write
Able to type
Peel vegetables
Hang washing out on the lowest line
Brush my hair
I never thought I’d be able to do some of those things as the first consultant said I’d never be able to raise my arm above my shoulder. I feel so thankful that I’m improving.
During all this I’ve stayed on my dose of 3 mg and wonder if I should now continue with my slow taper of 1/2 reduction each month?
☀️ It’s a beautiful sunny day here

That's wonderful news to hear. I'm so happy for you....definitely a cause for celebration. 🥳.....'Slow & Steady and Not Before You're Ready'!🙂 Well done.
How very warming to read your recovery, isn’t it amazing to be grateful for the simple things in life peeling veg , brushing your hair & hanging washing out ! Having had my right shoulder reconstructed after being thrown from my horse I totally sympathise , being able to do the little things gives you a sense of freedom & control . However currently lying here after a knee replacement last Tuesday, I keep telling myself it can only get better xxx
You are so right about gaining some freedom and control. I am exceptionally lucky that my husband has supported me, in more ways than one. Oh dear a knee replacement that is also going to take time, patience, I wish you an excellent recovery, as you say It can only get better, with time. 🙏
Great news! In June 2020 I broke my arm right up by the shoulder ball & socket joint. I slept upright for 44 days and don't know what I'd have done without my 'egg box' cushion! What I really wanted to say is that by sticking to all the advice you're being given and doing the exercises prescribed by Peter (I had wonderful Hannah & Oliver - all telephone appointments during lockdown!) you are doing your very best to gain as much function as possible. I would say that I have 99% in that arm now. I hope you continue to improve as time goes on.
What an inspiring message, I truly will follow everything I’m asked. I’ve always been a ‘walker’ and the hope is eventually I’ll be able to use my rucksack again🤞
That is amazing and clearly took up your whole day, but worth the result.Disappointing the first consultant can just say that to you and think it's acceptable. I'm sure if he was in the same position he'd be seeking out his colleagues for solutions, but good you found the right one in the end. You must be relieved.
You ‘hit the nail on the head’ during these past weeks the exercises have taken up a huge part of my day, little and often, I was told, so I set my timer. From the first week I’ve also continued with a daily walk, tentatively at first and with my husband/daughter in law or a friend. Now I’m confident, and careful, on my own. I certainly am feeling relived, thank you for your message, 🙏
