Have been reducing my Prednisolone gradually (0.5mg per month). Dropped from 7mg to 6.5mg 6 days ago and yesterday the old familiar pains started kicking in……. This morning I have received confirmation of the date for my Hip replacement - April 27th!!! so am going into panic mode as I need to be fit for my operation. Am hoping that my stress levels aren’t going to prevent me getting past this flare….. Why does everything happen at once!

Do try not to worry. They will give you extra steroids during and after the operation anyway. I have had 2 hip replacements while on about 11 mgs. I did flare after each op. as I tend to flare at the drop of a hat!Whilst the operation seems quite barbaric, they are very good at it now and recovery is pretty quick. Just make sure you are on enough pred. to get you through.
Just go straight back to 7mg - and stop panicking! You might need a few days at a higher dose (11mg will be about right) and drop straight back to 7mg. You have loads of time to sort it out and be stable at 7mg again.
Take a big breath and you should be fine by April. Hip replacement is one of the most successful operations in the world, you will be so pleased when you have had it.
Maybe go back to 7 till after your op.I should try not to worry that always makes things seem worse. Good luck
