Bye bye roof...

So Storm Eunice has dislodged my roof. I've had 8 fire fighters in my loft doing a temporary fix and I'm off to stay with my daughter for a few nights. I was strangely calm, but now very shaky. I'm currently taking 3 mg of pred per day, now thinking of taking a couple extra now and 5 mg in the morning. Would people agree that's reasonable?

Eminently sensible - so sorry to hear.

I escaped quite lightly I think - apart from chasing garden chairs & recycling bin around despite battening down everything yesterday.

Some trees down and electric off around village ….

..hope you manage to get things sorted soon . …and be spoilt by daughter 🌸

A horrible experience but thank goodness you're ok and safe. Your house can be repaired but it's still stressful I know.

My chimney cowl and all the cement underneath it was lifted, and crashed down onto my patio.....at the same time the power went off! No one was hurt and and no cars damaged so that's the main thing. Really scared me though, but so far I've felt ok and not needed any extra pred.

Really hope your house gets sorted soon.

So sorry to hear that. So many have had a LOT of damage to their homes. Hope you can get the roof repaired soon (there could be a waiting list).😏💐💐

Oh no!!! How awful.

Personally I'd think that might come under Sick Day Rules to provide adrenal cover for the stress. Do warn your daughter about possible adrenal insufficiency after long term corticosteroid therapy potentially making you unwell - she needs to realise that you might get very wobbly and it isn't JUST the shock and upset. Just so that she knows. And it wouldn't be unreasonable to call 111 - even 999 if you felt really poorly.

Thanks for that good advice. It's evening now and I'm feeling a lot less stressed. The damage is bad but not as devastating as I thought. I didn't dare go and look for a while. I'll warn my daughter as you suggest. I'd not considered the possible adrenal complications, so it was a useful reminder for me too.

Just get tucked up in bed and have a good sleep - it'll look even less awful tomorrow ;) And you are alive and safe - unlike some in the storm.

A new roof never did any house any harm :) but I always had to pay for mine!

Marijo and Kendrew - sorry to hear of your damage and very glad you are both ok. Do hope insurance and repairs do not add to the stress too much.

Oh poor you, Thank goodness you could go to your daughters.

I think taking extra pred for a day or 2 under the circumstances is quite acceptable.

We had a power cut, 19 hours, no central heating, no method of cooking or making a cup of tea, we were just about to go to my sons house who lives just a few miles from us when the electric came back on at 8am.

Take care and I hope you get your roof fixed soon.

Xx

Having lived in "off the beaten track" for many years, plus 2 years during the 80s in the Outer Hebrides where power cuts seemed almost a daily occurrence we have always had a small gas camping stove and kettle in the cupboard for emergencies!

I dug it out on Thursday, but fortunately didn't need it...

Heat I can cope without, but not a cuppa!

Yes, I’m sending hubby to get one, just in case.

Hope they aren't sold out - they were here in the Snow Cut!

Yes - like DL, the camping stove was retrieved from the cellar after our 30 hour power cut due to snow a few years ago! And I didn't dispose of it when the camper went!

So sorry you lost your roof , considering we had 95 mph winds we came away very lightly , just flower pots taking A trip round the garden , please let your daughter spoil you for A few days and get plenty of rest .

Hard luck! I hope you get it fixed soon. We had no electricity & no mobile phone signal for 20 hours, & told it will go off again sometime today. Think they need to fix something! Huge tree down in bottom neighbours garden, & holly tree down at front of ours, but it missed our motorhome, phew! Rescued greenhouse from end of garden & need to re-tile gazebo roof. Afterwards! Pouring with rain & heavy rain again now! We live in a forest, (with the New Forest National Park) & have huge oak trees, ash & holly, on two sides of our cottage. If one of the oaks goes the wrong way I may not post again!! Neighbour is very scared, they’ve gone away for 2 days, but we will guard their property quite happily! When the trees (4 so far) crash down the sound is just so loud, like an explosion! Think we are safer downstairs than upstairs, but only if the lounge ceiling doesn’t collapse! Two roads out of village blocked by trees, but that’s normal here in any storm! Take care & enjoy being looked after for a few days…hope the extra steroids work, if you take them!! Rest easy, S xx

That must have been very terrifying and stressful for you. I hope you are ok today and the increased Pred helps. Ive been without electricity for 24 hours and found that bad enough. Have just got power back and had the best cup of tea Ive ever tasted.

My electricity stayed on but I had to turn one circuit off because water was coming through the light fitting. I can't wait until this is all sorted out.
