Bad Mornings!

I always take my Pred (3 mgs) after breakfast at about 7am but it is always at least 11am before I feel OKish! I feel best in the evenings which is a waste for me because I retire early and all my activity takes place in the morning. Should I change to taking them at say 8pm?

Do you wake up earlier before you get up at 7 am...............if so take your pred then with a yoghurt, flask and slice of bread etc kept on your bedside table.

Then snuggle back down and see if that makes a difference. It did for me. BTW non-entric coated works quicker than coated.

I had this when my adrenal function was low. After a lifetime of being a morning lark, I struggled to feel ok before 11am. I still had to have a nap and an early night. Personally at this level I wouldn’t take the Pred later because it may mean your cortisol levels are less low than they should be at the lowest point in the night. By having these lows at night it triggers the adrenal axis to work. The reason they are low now is because you’ve had so much the artificial cortisone in your system, the adrenal axis has been dormant. It’s these repeated lows now that challenge it to work. Until my body got the message I had to pare back my lifestyle that wasn’t exactly all go, even more. It was worth it because I couldn’t face being in this twilight zone forever.

Whilst I appreciate the idea of taking it at night, Snazzy has explained the downsides of doing so. jinasc's option is one way that won't affect the midnight level which is key for prompting a return of adrenal function. Do you wake during the night? 2am is the ideal time to take pred - stops the morning problems and the midnight level is ideal. The sooner after that you could take the pred, the better your mornings will be.

I take mine at 2am and it works well for me. Of course this is a bit of a faff if you have to wake up to take it, but I am a night bird.

I too have always been an early bird. Since pred I hate the mornings. When I make my bed I look at it longingly just wanting to get back in. I start to feel so much better in the evenings. I continue to take my pred early morning since everyone says that’s best and I don’t want to make things worse so I have no solution

It isn't unusual to feel rubbish a few hours after taking pred. I know several who take their pred before bed to be able to sleep through the bad bit. And despite the theory of interfering with the return of adrenal function, they got off pred OK.

I have been better since I changed to Entric coated Pred. And take them at bedtime. I estimate that it takes my system ( a personal thing) about 6 hours to absorb the dose. Mornings are my best time. I need a nap after lunch and go to bed around 10 pm. I have needed to be flexible and change my timings over the years.
