Doctor rang blood test show esr38, I don't feel too bad at all just dropped to 6mg on Monday said if I don't have any symptoms stay at 6mg just wondering what you all thought. Was wondering to go up 5mg for a few day's too see if it brings it down. All thoughts welcome. Just going into my third year with pmr.

ESR can go up for a variety of reasons, not just PMR…so unless you have symptoms would suggest you stick at where you are….and request another blood test in a week or two.

But do monitor your symptoms, and if you feel a flare coming on, then do something about it.

Have you had cold, virus of any sort or injured yourself in any way recently , that can cause ESR to rise?

ESR will go up for all sorts of things, not just PMR, so since you don't appear to have much in the way of symptoms, the correct approach is to do another in a week or so and see if there is a rising trend.

If symptoms appear in the meantime - you probably need the next dose up. Even 1/2mg can make a massive difference.

If you feel OK don’t bother to increase. My inflammation markers are always high for some unknown reason.
