DOES ANYONE SUFFER FROM WEAK KNEES AND ANKLES? I HAVE THE ANSWER!

Just over a year ago I had another fall and broke an ankle . I went downhill for a year , feeling so insecure , and continuously felt momentarily like the joints were not able to support me . Thought old age had crept in ! 😱. I will give u the short story . I have just had a recent major flare . I was in the 1mg zone . Now I have increased my dose I feel secure again . That problem was an adrenal hiccup. I cannot remember the medical term , but I walked around like a little old , insecure grannie for a year ! Confidence has returned .

Very good - did you have to go up far with the dose? At what dose did the weakness appear - can you remember?

I ended up going up to 12mg . Going down 2mg every 2 weeks . I think I was on about 4mg when insecure knee and ankle joints happened . I did not have the problem when I fell on the beach and broke the ankle . After hobbling around in a moon boot twice the size of my foot for 6 weeks , All joints were insecure for just over a year . I just thought old age had set in . ……… until I had a flare , raised the pred and felt like iron woman again . All remained well on 10mg . I have just gone down to 8mg today . Fingers crossed . Definitely a big change for me .

Really think that 2mg at a time is a bit much - that's 20% now, not the 10% that is recommended.

Ok thanks. I will slow down again

This is encouraging to hear. It may be that you would benefit from a low dose of Pred indefinitely, recommended by the highly respected Professor Dasgupta for patients in this catch 22 situation.

I will keep that in mind . I had set my mind on getting off pred , getting hair back and losing weight . Plus of course, another diagnosis had clouded my thoughts . I am ehlers danlos as well . I had turned a blind eye to Polymyalgia ….silly me
