Protein absorption in the Blood

I understand that there is a link between excess sugar in the blood and ability to break down and absorb the protein molecule. Apparently the free sugar molecules wrap the free protein molecules preventing the protein getting to the muscle and simply passing through the gut. The net effect is that however much protein you consume you won't get the benefit if the sugar level is too high. Maybe someone with more knowledge can correct or confirm this please.

What has this to do with PMR/GCA ?

Probably because PMR impairs the oxygen supply to the muscles - which is why there is muscle pain. This gives arise to problems with movement etc.

Cycli has asked, in my eyes a legitimate question - as most of us do when first diagnosed and are learning in regard to both PMR and GCA.

I am not a medical person, but I have no doubt, that out of the 14,000 odd members on this forum, someone will know something or will know where to find it out.

I did not have PMR, I had GCA and although I did not experience the pain in the muscles as much as my PMR friends. I still ended up not able to walk more than two car lengths.

Interesting to read another theory on how our muscles are affected in PMR. Low sugar diet is definitely worth it for all the other reasons too.

The evidence is that sugar doesn't impair muscle anabolism - but it is likely only to apply to diabetics and patients on high doses of pred who are having frequent very high spikes of glucose released from body stores which isn't always the case.

What would be interesting is a link to where you saw this information to see their sources and evidence.

Would like to see studies....I am not sure protein metabolism is affected by sugar.
