Is it advisable to attend chiropractor / Oestopath recently diagnosed vasculitis - Takaysus . On pred 17.5 currently . Dexta is perfect .

Have found so helpful in past with spine issues but nervous to attend now . Any thoughts 😊

I visit an osteopath and she is fantastic. She knows about PMR and is really helpful.

It was too much for me with GCA but we’re all different. I used to go to an osteopath who was gentle and wasn’t a clunk, click every trip type, who did lots of cranial. In the two years up to diagnosis is couldn’t cope with it at all as it made me feel really ill. We always wondered why….

When I first experienced pain - started in lower back but quickly went to both shoulders, hips and top of calves - I presumed it was a mechanical injury as I had being doing some heavy lifting, so went to the osteopath. Despite the fact that the excruciating pain was spreading just about everywhere, it didn't occur to her that it was anything but "mechanical". I am left in no doubt that her pushing and prodding just made matters worse.

I am interested in this too. One of my sisters wants to send me to a chiropractor and is taking offense because I want to leave that until I have been on steroids for longer and see how I get on. Am I right in thinking that PMR relates more to connective tissue than actual joints? I am concerned that manipulation of my joints might make me worse (or be of no benefit). Would a physiotherapist be better?

A chiropractor is not the same as an osteopath. The training is different. In United States, an osteopath has, after his name,DO. He actually studies the same subjects as an MD. Their focus more on body structural issues. A Chiropractor(DC) goes to chiropractic school. Their training is totally manipulating the joints. They are not trained in nutrition, medication, diagnosis of internal medicine and treatment of same. In the US many chiropractors have been sanctioned for prescribing supplements which they sell for profit, and nutritional advice which rightfully is the task for a licensed dietitian. My rheumatologist(DO), for the last five years, is an osteopath. He has been very receptive and very thorough. Even though he just changed his practice to a more distant city, I still consult him.

I have used both osteopaths and chiropractors in the past fir many years. Osteopaths had not results with me and only the Chiropractors who ,clunk/clicked and doesn’t time deep soft tissue massage helped me. They were amazing. One American trained who was absolutely the best but did a bunk to Andorra. The second was an NHS physio who worked the same way as my first Chiro. When talking to him he said he was a chiropractor, Physio and fully trained Osteopath and used all three schools. He also was a Rugby player and medic. Amazing man who when he moved out of Derby used to come and do sessions at my home for all of us who still needed treatment. This treatment helped me as much as pred has without the side effects! Sadly he went to France to work with a Ruby team. Have never found another who worked the same.
