My first few days on prednisilone I was completely pain free but over the past few nights the neck and shoulder stiffness is starting to come back…,, it passes once I’m out of bed and taken my meds . Is this normal?

What time do you take your Pred?Inflammatory substance ( cytokines) is shed by the body at about 4 am, if you take your Pred at 2 am and go back to sleep, you will have a better morning. If you experiment with this, be sure to have something on your stomach, like thick yoghurt.

Mmm, relatively normal...if it's liveable with and goes quickly, stay with it, but obviously if it becomes more of an issue you may need slightly higher dose.

Have linked to my intro post, which may explain things a bit more for you -but basically steroids are only controlling part of your illness, the inflammation - and there is a new shedding of the substances that cause that around 4 am every morning, which is why you feel worse then.

Initially the Pred is working on the built up inflammation (prior to diagnosis/treatment) and the new daily shedding, so it has to work hard...maybe that's the problem at the moment, so give it chance..

Normal really - especially if you have tried to go back to normal service because you feel so much better! The pred only mops up the puddle of inflammation, it does nothing at all to the actual disease process which continues chugging along in the background and attacking body tissues still creating inflammation. That leaves your muscles intolerant of acute exercise - and if you try to do too much, catching up on the tasks that were abandoned pre-pred, then they will ache.

Pacing and resting appropriately is required.

Interesting. Tim Spectre of the ZOE app said they were able to get in on their plan so much more quickly because they came under education and not health.

Beware the sting of the Pred Miracle. Takes the form of the person thinking, “hooray!” and going about life with a long lost vigour. Not you? Sorry for assuming. Is you? Take it easy because Pred is just supporting your body not curing the disease. Any sign of doing too much, slow down and then see if it continues to get worse perhaps?

PMR is life changing and we need to appreciate that we need to rest, rest, rest. Just take things slowly and don’t overdo it.
