Covid vaccination - household members of shielded.

Hi all. Apologies if this has already been posted. England only.

If you are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable to covid (and lots of us are here) and have household members they can now be vaccinated regardless of age. You need a letter from your GP which they use to book.

I've just received my letter after asking for it.

That’s really interesting Coffeebeans, l suppose many of us on here are older so don’t have younger family members but it’s good to be aware of this. Thank You.

Yes I did think when I posted that it might not apply to many.

It might help spread the word too 🙂

Yes, my Sons, In Laws have a Grandson with Downs so his Parents should qualify.

I’ve received a letter from NHS Scotland offering vaccines to any one in my household. I have two sons returning from university so they have both applied. No letter from GP required.

Apparently they will be contacted so let’s hope it’s not too long. I’m also helping my 90 year old Mum who is receiving immunotherapy at the moment so my boys being vaccinated will be very helpful.

That's great news

I have to admit, I have the letter and I'm assuming my daughter can book as normal with that in hand through her gp. She will be back from uni very soon so I'm keen she has it.

It looks like they are getting on with vaccines pretty well now. They have got to the 32 year olds and over. My cleaning lady’s daughter and son in law in their 20s were vaccinated, first dose, over four weeks ago. She was really annoyed as they beat her to it by a day!

Wow they are rattling through the age groups.

My nephew in his 30s has his on Tuesday. He thinks the anti Vax people are mad!!

It has been made a condition of employment in the care sector here that you must be vaccinated (seems fair enough to me). Interview with someone claiming he will leave and get another job - used to be easy in this region, very low unemployment rate. But Covid has changed that. Said he is not anti-vax but objects to being told he must. How childish ...

Funny I was just talking about this today. Having lost father in law to covid whilst in a home I fully agree that vaccination should be a requirement.

When I worked at Barts we had to have all sorts of strange jabs - international patients meant it could be like being on holiday in Africa!

Coffeebeans profile image
Coffeebeans in reply toPMRpro

I can imagine! The most random jab I ever had was small pox in the 70's for travelling.

When I worked in medical field we had hep B as standard too. I'm sure that's still a thing.

I'd had the small pox one much sooner than that. Yes - the hep one was then but in London so was yellow fever I think!!! Those dratted docks ...

Yellow fever for London 😳. Flaming sailors - I can only say that because I was one 😂

I totally agree. I think companies should be allowed to say if you don’t get the vaccine you don’t work with us, but it is all human rights.....

I rang my GP and my family members were done a few weeks ago. No need to wait for the letter as GP knows if you are clinically extremely vulnerable. Good luck, it certainly makes me feel safer now my grown up children are all out and about

That's great to hear.

We have different GP's so probably do need the letter. It would be easier if we were at the same one.
