I bought a Tens Machine for a previous shoulder injury pre PMR (those were the days) my Pain Meds Consultant recommended it & the particular setting to use & l found it very useful, l probably tried it in that pre diagnosis haze of pain meds but honestly can’t remember if it was of any benefit?

If you do try it, take it steady, increase the intensity & duration slowly.

You’ve reminded me it might be useful for my shoulder that’s playing up a bit at the moment, amongst everything else 😉

Read up about the Tens before you use it. I used it but when a dicky heart came along it is a no no. A friend with PMR used it when out shopping and found she could do her shop as long as it was on. So she planned her route to the time you could use the machine.

There are portable versions you can wear for much longer.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I feel guilty every time I pass by the inactive humidifier(??!) - the mini pedal cycle (😱) - the nasal wash kit 🤧- etc etc 🤣

What on earth is a nasal wash kit, I am missing out!

Basically it’s a plastic bottle, though you can buy fancy battery operated ones, you hill it with warm water and insert in one nasal, apply pressure to clean out your nasal passages..was amazing when I found out about them back when I had no idea why I would start coughing and couldn’t stop, it was my nasal passages were blocked

I used one for a while but found it didn't help much - perhaps it was because I also have inflammatory arthritis. Anyway I put the level up too far one day and burned my leg (four little burns). Never used it again! (How stupid can you get)???

I bought one on recommendation by the physio when I first went down with PMR, it helped me enormously. I had forgotten about it so will fire it up again and try it on all the various bits and pieces of my body that hurts.

I bought one recently, think there are different versions, and it did help. Get one with a muscle stimulator. I wondered if it was working but it switches off automatically after an hour and then I knew it was helping. You can wear it 24/7 if you wish and each pad is reusable up to 47 times. I used it every day for two weeks and problem eased.

I have used TENS on my back and shoulders. It helped with the osteoarthritis pain but didn't seem to touch the PMR pain. TENS doesn't work for everyone but when it does work it's quite effective in helping chronic pain. If I use it when having a PMR flare it just makes me feel worse. I guess you try it and see

I have never tried a TENS device I I have metal in my knee. Please be aware that there are restrictions to know about before trying this.

For sure, as in you should not use one if you have a pacemaker. In the case of metal in your knee, I don’t believe it is an issue, as I have two total knee replacements and part of the protocol in recovery after surgery was the use of a TENS machine

We use daily to have a Tens machine, but a very old version. That now ditched and have purchased a PainGone Pen. Works a treat, and you only need it once a day.

Does the pen deliver a pulse or is it a needle that goes in like acupuncture, I have never heard of one before

A pulse, operated by you or someone helpful. 30-40 per time

So, in my case with a sore neck though, how do you know where u would place ?

Nowhere near jugular vein. If pain at base of neck, at back Edith side of vertebral column. Would suggest you go to the website, and see if they have a question/answer
