More pain

Hi all

Need some advice! I have been on 5.5 mg of pred for four weeks down from 6mg. Have had some pain but it has been something I could live with. This morning I have been in tears as the pain has become unbearable.

Any advice as what I should do? Can’t get a phone consult with rheumatologist till end of next week.

Thank you for any advice!!

It seems you have just gone over your comfort point, it is incredibly easy to do. I find increase around 5mg for a week or so and see that you are OK. If everything is all right reduce to say 6mg or 7mg so and see if that is OK. Then carry on reducing as normal once you feel comfortable.

Add 5mg for 5-7 days - until the pain is improved - and then drop back to the last dose you were OK at, 6mg I assume? No need to taper.

Yes I was not to bad at 6mg. I will do what you suggested and will post back in a few days. Hope this works. THANK YOU SO MUCH

I was too much of a coward to let the inflammation build and build. Try 5 mgs extra for a week to 10 days then return to 6 mgs and rest there until it all settles. This has worked for me, more than once.

Thank you. It has been a terrible day today. Been in tears many times. I did go up the 5mg. Will see what tomorrow brings. It is comforting to have the advice of people who have experienced this to talk with.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!!!!

Yes I when I was like that I added 5 mgs for one week then dropped back , it got me out of my immediate pain , and able to get up out of chair.

I have a long history of PRM 14 yrs up and down steroids . Off them twice for short periods. Now only on 3 mgs and doing great. Still some hip, shoulder pains and fatigue, but I am 64 now . Just think I will stay here on 3 mgs and hope I remain stable . Pleased your feeling better and as you come off your higher dose you are ok .

Best of luck to you. I am trying to cut back from 6mg. Not having much luck. Will try when I feel stable again.
