I suffer with high blood pressure controlled with Enalapril but over the last few days my BP has shot the roof and I have really bad headaches. I am currently at 2.5 mg of Prednisolone and am not sure if the headache is caused by my BP or the PMR. I spoke to my GP he raised my BP meds but this hasn’t helped. Bearing in mind that Prednisolone can raise your BP I’m not sure whether to raise the Pred or not. Has anyone else had this problem. Any suggestions?

I'm no medical expert, but I would have thought that increasing your Pred would risk increasing your BP. If your BP is really high and the extra medication prescribed hasn't helped then you need to get back to Docs as soon as you can. If Doc not available then 111 or walk in centre.
Morning, just be aware, your headache may be due to GCA. Hopefully not, but with PMR GCA is common to get too.
Do you have a home monitor to check BP? If so what is it compared to your ‘usual’ reading.
Whatever, it needs to be checked - in case it’s GCA as suggested. .....would have though that at such a lose dose of Pred, BP should be going down not up!
Hi yes I have got a monitor my BP has been raised higher than normal since starting Pred. Over the weekend it went to 160/110 and has been high for the last few days . I will call the doctor again today, I just hate contacting them all the time.
If the BP meds being increased hasn't helped it needs checking out properly - very high BP causing a headache is concerning. If the GP won't see you f2f go to A&E.
Hi, I’ve been reducing pred since July last year from 7.5 and now on 5 one day 4.5 the other, trying to get to 4 by May.
In December I had very bad headaches and my GP was monitoring my BP as it was elevated, but no further meds were given on top of my Losartan 50 mgs twice daily. One evening I felt really unwell and eventually ended up in A&E where my BP was recorded at 247/117, they immediately gave me more medication to bring it down and transferred me to Resus, I stayed in hospital for 5 nights, being treated with several more meds and now have one extra tablet to take and this seems to have worked in bringing my BP down, I still have headaches occasionally, but have been diagnosed with Ocular Migrains and been prescribed meds for that which do help.
Perhaps a trip to the optician may help solve things.
Agree with others that further investigation is warranted, My BP and related meds increased at the outset of PMR diagnosis and prednisone and both decreased as my pred dose decreased.
You should be very careful what you are eating and drinking. Coffee and salt can sky rocket your BP. Do you keep a record of your BP checks. It’s very important.

PS
You should get a referral to a cardiologist. You could do with a ‘holter blood pressure monitor’ for 24 hours.
Since starting PMR last year I have been following an anti inflammatory diet. I don’t monitor my BP all the time, I can tell when it’s raised and that’s when I usually check it. It has been raised while on Pred but over the last few days much higher than usual.
