Tooth extraction

Hi , I’m having a tooth extracted and am really nervous. I am down to four and a half mg of pred do I need to take any extra on the day?

I had a wisdom tooth out at a higher dose and didn't take any extra. Possibly if you are very nervous and it is a difficult extraction you might need a bit more to replace adrenal function but not otherwise.

Are you on a bisphosphonate? Remember to tell the dentist everything you are taking.

My dentist also gave me the anaesthetic without the Adrenaline. He was concerned that I might faint and was faintly disappointed when I didn’t. Very young and as keen as mustard. After what we’ve been through these things seem quite minor and I am the biggest wuss.

Try not to worry. If it's a straightforward extraction it will be over in no time and afterwards you'll be asking yourself why you were concerned.

I had an extraction last week. I was worried and anxious just like you. I am on 3mg and it was all fine. I did take a supply of Pred with me in case I felt I needed any after the procedure, but all I felt was relief! Good luck.

I had a tooth extracted last year when I was on 15. Dentist gave me a shot of 8 prior to surgery. I was put out as the tooth was broken and impacted. No issues. I was fine after.

Hi, I had a tooth out when I was on about 12mg . I didn't have any problems . I had to gargle with salt water for healing ,try not to swallow!! I went to the hospital for my extraction . They were very helpful and advised me what to do afterwards. Try not to eat on that side as well !! It felt tender for a couple of weeks but no problem s since . I hope that helps.

I have had 2 teeth removed and did not increase my prednisolone dose. I am taking 5mg at the moment. I remember my dentist saying he would use the numbing injection without adrenaline. So I assume that's what he did. Was nowhere near as bad as my mind had decided it was going to be. Great to be out of pain though. Hope it is easy on you x
