Has Pmr come back?

Hi everyone, have been off Pred for 3 months now and everything was great. I have started getting terribly painful elbows, this is how it started last time and I had pmr for six years.

Do you think it has come back again?

Thank you Jenny x

hi Jenny,

I do hope not, after 6 years you would have had your fill!

But if it’s similar to last time around, it does sounds as if it could be. Do you have any Pred in the bathroom cupboard to trial for a week or two?

Do you think there anything else it could conceivably be? If it were just one it could be, but both......

If you think it might be better returning, don’t let it linger too long before you seek medical advice...sooner you act, sooner controlled.

Hi DorsetLady, I can't believe I only took the left over Pred back to the Chemist last week.

I will see how it goes next week and contact the Dr if no better.

Thank you, Jenny x

Oh, that’s typical isn’t it? Sod’s law I think they call I😉. Do act on though please.

Have you tried other painkillers or ibruprofen gel etc?

Probably answers your question then 🤦🏻‍♀️...unfortunately. Get it sorted then, ASAP...for your benefit...

It probably hasn't "come back" - it was always there at a very low activity and 1mg pred was enough to keep it under wraps. Three months is a very common timescale for the inflammation to be enough to be noticed, it has happened to plenty of others I know.

That's why Prof Dasgupta told us he keeps patients on 2-3mg for a long time as it reduces the risk of a relapse (in a webinar last summer). My own rheumy also says he has a lot of patients on a very low dose for a long time.

Isn't it wearing, it seems as if it has gone on forever.

Getting Pred out of my Doctor will be a challenge, you would think you were asking for Heroin at least, ha ha

I know - as DL says, they are happier to hand out opiate painkillers!

Hope you get this sorted soon. I'm very grumpily taking 8 mg at the moment, and coming to grips with the fact that it isn't going to be a fast drop back down to 2 or even 3. Sooner you get on top of this the better. Good Luck!

Thank you Her on, sorry about spelling your name incorrectly, my machine keeps altering it.

I have got up this morning and things are worse, so back to the Doctors I suppose.

Why not try some Tylenol or Ibiprofin (if you can take it) before committing yourself to more prednisone?

I came off pred for GCA last April and started feeling like I had PMR. Blood results didn't support that, I have always had a raised CRP. It turned out the pred had been covering up my osteoarthritis. Have your Possible PMR checked out but like me it might be osteoarthritis. Good luck.
