Covid vaccine has spiked my PMR

I have had PMR and CGA for a few years, CGA has gone, PMR was really improving, down to Prednisolone at 5mg. Was considering with discussion from doctors to now reducing further over the next months but held on due to Covid, was told the steroid could help reduce any effect it may have.

I had the Asrazenica/Oxford vaccine 2 weeks ago. After a few days and until now suffering the worst PMR spike for over 2 years. Anyone else had the same reaction?

Sorry to hear this, but just to reassure peeps I’m on 5mg, had the Pfizer and no reaction at all. Hope it settles down .

It might be a case of 'one size' doesn't fit all. But as they say that if it gives some protection from severe Covid that must be better. But at the moment they haven't got enough info to say the vaccine caused it. I hope you feel better soon.

Have you reported it with the Yellow Card system?

Doing it now

Sorry to hear this - have you reported as per the Yellow Card System as PMRpro mentioned? Are you using the ZOE Covid App as they are very keen on this kind of information.

Have you increased your dose now?

Not reported yet, need to do it this afternoon. Not increased dose either but I am going to have to add much as I hate doing it

It was mentioned on the Seminar on Monday if it triggered a flare, you might have to increase Pred according.

Hope you feel better soon 🌺

Thank you for this. I missed the seminar due to a meeting at work with our US team, wish I had been there to hear.

Fran_Benson and CandyH are listed under Supporting the Community as Administrators at the side of the page on my screen - not sure where on a phone. You can mesage them directly like anyone else and there is also a blue Contact Us button.

Did they give any indication how much additional Prednisolone to take and for what duration? In doing so does it affect the immune system making use of the vaccine? If I was to guess (yes I’m guessing) I would say it would reduce the effectiveness.I’m on 10mg transitioning to 9mg (using DSNS).

I am sorry to hear this. I'm sure it is discouraging. We think the vaccine triggered my PMR and I was told NOT to have any vaccines nor boosters. What does your doctor advise?

Once it has already been triggered it probably won't cause any more problems. I flared a bit with the second original jab but it went away and no other jabs have been a problem. And I haven't had Covid as far as I know.
