I wrote that my Doctor said she thought I should wait until I was off my Pred before having the vaccine and I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t get it.
Well I need not have worried as I am to have my jab on Saturday . Thank goodness, that will be a relief.
It will be in Lichfield Cathedral what a lovely venue.
So pleased for you and yes what a great setting. We used to go for a service there every year when I was attending school, the Friary.

Actually going back to what your GP said about not having the jab- not sure it is up to individual GPs - this is what my surgery put out today -
The vaccines are being rolled out in a very strict order
Please do not contact the surgery nor the hospital to seek a vaccine
We will contact you when the NHS has informed us that you are eligible
Last comment implies it's a central decision, not local......although the GP may well be involved once advised.

Hi Lacelady , did your DR tell you why it was best to wait ? I have also been worried about this , are you off Pred ? im still on 5mgs and there is no way im going to be off by the middle of Feb !
I think the dr is misinformed - all the rheumatologists are saying to get the vaccine. She is probably totally unaware of the long term use of pred in PMR and that it could be years before a patient is off - most pred is used over a period of a few weeks and then it might make some sense to wait until you stop.
We definitely need to have it even though waiting 12 weeks before the next one is looking like it could be a problem.
Well that is up to the UK government - no-one else is waiting that long and there really are problems with the concept. Although I did hear some mention that up to 42 days was being considered somewhere in case the deliveries of vaccine were wobbly. There is no sign of me being in line for mine here - medical staff all got it first and now over 80s in general after over 80s in care homes.
I was reading this morning that some experts were advocating reducing the period as it will be too long between the two inoculations. We will have to wait and see what decision the government comes to.
There is evidence that the immunity developed in response to the first jab is nothing like as high as the UK have been saying - from Israel I think who are doing a mass vaccination programme and tracing patients looking how long it takes to develop immunity. The worst thing is that it contradicts the clinical trial evidence - why spend all that money on clinical trials only to have it ignored?
That is what I have been reading. It makes nonsense of the whole reason for the vaccine if by the time we get the next dose we will be back to square one. I understand what the government is trying to achieve, to get us all inoculated but at what cost.
It doesn't mean the protection will fall away in 12 weeks - but they won't get the level of protection they think in between and too many people already think that once they have had one shot they are good to go. Expect the next spike in 4 or 5 weeks ...
She did suggest that I wait however I am having the vaccine on Saturday so she didn’t do anything to block it. I am on 10mg at the moment so they are obviously not bothered. I think it is essential that we have it although it looks like waiting 12 weeks before the next jab is not going to be good.
