Lovely woodland scene. Anywhere near you? Best one I've seen.

Yes. just up the coast near Craster.

Just looked up 'Craster' no notion of the place at all (or the surroundings). My (very old) memories are all round the Durham area.

On the old coast road to Edinburgh, between Bamburgh and Newbiggin. Craster is where the famous kippers, alongside Manx kippers are shipped all over the EU.

I'd rather have smoked haddock - smokies ...

Constance13 profile image
Constance13β€’ in reply toPMRpro

Not had those either. Very poor for fish here.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorβ€’ in reply toConstance13

Smokies come from further north - Arbroath. Not sure I have ever seen either in shops here - but we have a superb fresh fish counter in the supermarket. I suppose one tends to in more RC regions.

Fresh fish is horrendously expensive here! Must buy more though - very healthy stuff. (Better keep to some 'health' comments or we will be black listed.) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Constance, I eat fish at least 3 days a week................but then I live near the coast and as kids the fisherman wives used to bring the fish on a cart and horse..........

When I loved in London the fish was yucky. I then realised we had been spoilt with fresh fish.

Constance13 profile image
Constance13β€’ in reply tojinasc

We eat it two or three times a week too. Smoked salmon, fish pie or fish soup. Anything you can do to make poor quality fish edible.πŸ˜‚

Guess what I had last Wednesday. Fish Pie, made with Arbroath Smokies, Prawns, Cod (straight from North Sea) and Scottish Rope Mussels.............I don't put hard boiled eggs in and Ialso use mashed cauliflower with cheese sauce on top. Often substitute Mashed cauli for pots.

Had Scallops at lunch time today and Halibut for tea. 🌊🚒 I am so pleased that my neighbours go down to North Shields every week.

Oh yum, yum, yum!!!!! How do you do your scallops? Also fresh?

jinasc profile image
jinascβ€’ in reply toPMRpro

Yes, pan fried in butter and then a little sauce made with cream and a little bit of garlic. Longtime since I had fresh scallops, Graeme was lucky as he went down at 7am to the special fish bloke who opens at 7am and is shut by Noon.

PMRproAmbassadorβ€’ in reply tojinasc

There are almost always scallops on the fish counter here - fresh daily from Venice. But I have yet to screw up the courage!!!

jinasc profile image
jinascβ€’ in reply toPMRpro

Are they in the shell? If so lift them out of the shell, wash the shell, lightly pan fry in butter, then scoop back into shell, fill the shell and on top of the scallop with pots or mashed cauliflower then oven till the top browns, glass or two of white wine - my idea of Heaven.

Wish I lived near your fish shop...........scallops are most expensive in the UK, mainly because the upmarket supermarkets and restaurants bag them all.

Think of turbot, halibut and deep sea fresh cod..............

Bet you fish monger knows how the Italians cook them..................now my mouth is watering.......

I'm very partial to a piece of cod wrapped in raw ham and oven baked/roasted - all in one pan with the veggies too ...
