Taper concern

I am day 2 into a pred taper. I usually suffer for about a week each time I taper. The withdrawals are just starting

My whole family have just tested positive for Covid, I’ve been isolating from them as they are all key workers apart from our youngest who is 12.

I’m not sure if this is a good time to taper, not sure if I developed Covid symptoms on top of pred withdrawals would make things worse.

Anybody have advise on this ??

So sorry to hear that Leepeelee. I know others more informed will be along but they may need a few more details in order to advise you, such as how long you've been on pred and dose your tapering from.....and to. Hopefully you won't have contracted covid though.

Hi Leepeelee

Firstly, sorry to hear about your family & hope they all get well soon.

Secondly, this is NOT the time to taper, hold off for a week at least, in the scheme of things it’s no big deal.

What dose of Pred are you on & are you doing a ‘Slow Taper’ as that helps with the ‘withdrawal symptoms’

Kind Regards

MrsN

Hi,

Would suggest you put a hold on tapering for now - if only to help the stress you are bound to be under. Hope everybody improves ASAP.

Definitely don't taper and, depending on your current dose, if you DO develop symptoms then discuss with a doctor whether you should INCREASE the dose in line with Sick Day Rules as detailed in the Pinned Posts. Hopefully it won't be required - but this new variant is a bit incalculable

Can you get tested?

Oh no, it never rains but it pours!

I agree, not the time to taper. I hope you've managed to keep a distance and remain well. Best wishes for their speedy recovery too.

What dose did you get to now? You were way ahead of me if I remember right.

Take care.

I have managed to get down to 6mg since the last taper which was about 9 weeks ago.

In the first lockdown I spent 11 weeks in my caravan on the driveway in order to keep away from my family as they are all either key workers or at school!

So during the summer months I built an annex on the side of our house which was built solely for me isolating from my family. They all finished work / school on 16th December with the plan to isolate themselves in order for us all to spend Christmas Day together (a week of isolating) BUT, on 22nd, my son developed symptoms, had a test, tested positive. Then one by one they all followed suit.

My partner is the last one to test positive, she is currently in bed quite unwell but seems to be improving.

I haven’t been for a test because I haven’t been hear them 😢🙁

Great Christmas so far !

Oh that's just awful and terrible timing. I hope you can all have an alternative Christmas Day when everyone is well.

I was thinking you might be in the caravan at the moment but in this weather it wouldn't be good. Your building skills came in handy for sure.

We have community testing round here so I have had two tests so far. All good but since I have a bubble that includes school age children we are all being careful.

I'm on 11mg at the mo but I'm just not sure it's quite enough. Have tapered for an MRI on Christmas Eve so just trying to get back to a nice balance.

Glad you're ok for now, finger crossed. Good to hear from you - it's been a while 😃
