Just seeing this update now -- I had just posted to the other thread that I too get ocular migraines -- and while not quite like your visual lightening, it sounded to me like that might be a possibility. It was absolutely right to go and make sure it is not GCA, especially for anyone with PMR. I started with PMR in around 2011 and though the pain is gone and am off steroids now since 2013, I am always hyper-aware of anything eyesight related as possible GCA. The kind of odd visuals I was having and didn't seem to fit GCA nor did I have any other symptoms but I did check right away with my GP who sent me to neurology for a head MRI and to be checked. Diagnosed with ocular migraines. As I noted on your original thread, I wonder if the PMR/GCA researchers might be interested in the high degree of ocular migraines reported due to your thread as they are supposed to be uncommon! I have never even heard of anyone else with them and suddenly several on your thread all reported having them. Intriguing.
I am so glad that they gave you the all clear. I would still be vigilant though PMR and GCA are sisters. Even more glad that you had a happy day and are feeling better. You’ve been on my mind. I was once hours in A&E on Christmas Eve with my granny who had broken her wrist. Not so much as a sip of water or a painkiller until I finally stopped being so British and pleaded with them.
I had an 8 hour wait at my local eye emergency clinic before deciding on my pred dose. It's not the best, but for peace of mind. ... my ocular migraine is like flashing patterns to the side that move in a kaleidoscope type pattern.. very pretty but bloomin annoying! At least I can recognise them now as things start to get a bit darker. I'm also not sure if they are stress related.
Hope you find an answer. Good luck with everything.
Glad you're OK. I too have started to have these 'visual migraines' as the optician called them. Never had migraines of any sort before. I lose a bit of sight, accompanied by a kaleidoscopic ribbon of flashing lights on one side, but never with a headache. Interesting that so many others also get this.
