Have you ever had a dexascan to assess the state of your bone density? The hip replacement is another problem, osteoarthritis (I assume?) is not the same as osteoporosis.
I have been on pred for over 11 years and have had very little deterioration in my bone density - I took calcium and vit D religiously and until last year walked for 1/2 hour almost every day. One of the major risk factors for loss of bone density is immobility - and that is a major risk of allowing PMR to build up. I struggled to walk 100m.
Oh dear. I'm pretty sure if you actually do have PMR again you won't have much choice but to take the pred. More knowledgeable people on here will advise you on that though. Are you on any sort of medication for your "bone problem"?
