Tapering setback

Hi all, a little (hopefully) setback in my Tapering, managed to get from 30mg at end of June to 13mg without any real problem, but last week at 12mg seems to have been a step to far with increasing shoulder and neck pain. Gave it a few days to see if was just my body adjusting to new dose, but didn't seem to work. Decided to go back to 15mg today to, hopefully, get back to where I was. If this works, after a few days, do I then go back to 13mg and start tapering, probably longer this time, or do I just taper down from 15mg? No extra exercise or anything this week, but a bit more stress with having a specialist eye appointment today to see/confirm optician's diagnosis of Glaucoma. Peter

Hi Peter,

See if 15mg works first, hopefully it should.

Apart from added stress, 13mg might have only just been enough, with the drop to 12mg being one step too far, so personally I would “restart” at 15mg and tapering 1mg per step.

You’ve done very well to get from 30mg in 4-5months, so just slow it down a bit now - you’re into the “usual” PMR starting range and with the onset of colder weather it might be a little more difficult.

Thanks DL, that was the conclusion that I had come to, I'll stay on the 15mg for a bit and come down from there slowly and hopefully all will be well. Peter

Hi Peter

DL has given you the answer l would have, 11mg was always my sticking point & l started at 15mg

So back to 15mg & restart the taper when your ready.

Good Luck 🍀

Like MrsN I started at 15mg, it was miraculous. But since then, getting under 10mg has always been mega-difficult and currently I'm stuck at 15mg and there is a difference even by 14mg.

IF 15mg worked really well in up to 7-10days, where theoretically you could drop straight back to 13mg, it seems 13mg is barely enough - so why drop back to that? Go via 14mg.
