Weak bladder and PMR

Weak bladder when PMR symptoms worsen? Or something else? I always get a leaky bladder when my symptoms get generally worse i.e. Tiredness/ fatigue and general aches and pains . Anyone else notice this?

I’m taking Calci D and read somewhere that could be the cause: so, fed up with needing the loo all the time , I only take it alternate days? Good luck .

I don't take , only Prednisolone, plus lisinoprol and propranolol for blood pressure and a broad spectrum multivitamin / mineral tablet.

Yes - but there are several contributory factors including various medications (including calcium carbonate supplements).

Don't know your age, but I've suffered stress incontinence for ages, well before PMR....sure it's an age thing. It's not too bad though fortunately.

Yes always needing the loo especially when I’m worried that there won’t be one near by. This isn’t so bad now but at the beginning of the lockdown easing there were very few toilets open.

As others, I feel , I have shares in Tena Lady . 💐

Interesting, someone on a Facebook group poised a question the other day about how many people have to wee more since being on Pred eg wake several times in the night, and there must have been nearly 100 people saying 'yes me'. I don't know if it's linked to the PMR or to Pred but it seems common. I've had several trips to the GP about it but no solutions with being prescribed Vesicare or anything.

I told Prof Mackie that bladder problems were a not only pred problem - she was surprised and asked patients. Who confirmed it.

I just had my latest steroid injection on Friday, which normally takes about 5 days to kick in. Last night (end of day 2) I woke constantly about every 1.5 hours needing to wee. This morning I woke up 4 lbs lighter and the oedema has gone from my legs and ankles. So I'm wondering if steroids have a diuretic effect in some way? Same happened when I was on 20 pred a day for 5 days for a flare a few months ago - I lost nearly half a stone in 2 days which went back on as I returned to a normal dose. So I have 'steroid responsive oedema' but no idea why I get the oedema in the first place or why the steroids sort it out. Or even if I should up my steroids to shed some weight.

That some people pee at night when on pred is common. Doesn't touch me thank goodness!

Have you any sign of heart failure?

No I've been tested for that. And standard diuretics (Furosemide) did nothing to help. Dr Mackie is stumped

That is the point of those links - steroids worked where diuretics didn't

Thanks I will continue to investigate. I was thoroughly checked out for any heart and lung problems a few years ago but will ask GP for a blood test if I ever get to see one again in my lifetime

Renal function too? The obvious answer is that there is some inflammation somewhere that's doing it - the question is, what/where? I find the arrythmia problem I have is notably worse when I try to reduce so it is something to do with the vasculitis too - the cardiologist agrees.

I think it's something vasculitis related. But if my rheumy doesn't know what's going on and my GP has done all the tests to rule out what they can rule out I think it's something I'll just have to live with. Thanks for the info and ideas
