Wasp sting and Anaphylaxis /PMR

A couple of month ago I got stung and had a bad reaction to a wasp sting ended up in hospital was give two very large does of steroids 100mg each plus adrenaline etc .

I’ve suffered from PMR since 2015 and struggled to get below 6mg every time i tried I got a flare up. Yet after the hospital, I’ve been able to reduce down to 2mg and sometimes almost forget to take my tablets. 1.5mg next.

Just a little note on whether to take pred or not . Till my PMR was diagnosed I could hardly move, even putting socks on was impossible. Yet a day after starting on 15mg of pred I was almost pain free and a lot happier. It has caused problems like osteoporosis.

Steroids allowed me to get back to work and more importantly cycle completely and go backpacking in the mountains

I have found advice on here invaluable over the year and the book on the subject

Sorry to hear about wasp sting et al - but obviously the large amounts of Pred sorted your PMR for a while.

Just keep reducing slowly( trying not to miss doses!) and you may be at zero sometime.

Good luck.

There has been discussion in the past about whether starting at a higher dose may help the later course of tapering - it certainly does in GCA where the patients started on a 3-day pulse therapy of up to 1000mg/day were better able to taper subsequently.

Of course - the anaphlyactic shock may have reset your immune system. Not that I would fancy trying it as a cure!
