Hi All, my last post discussed my high ESR and being stuck on 10mg of pred despite feeling well and that my GP was going to contact a haematologist re my ESR. Well, eight weeks later I can report that the haematologist says that he's absolutely sure I have PMR and that as I'm well I should be tapering as with PMR you treat the symptoms. No pain so taper, as of today I've dropped down to 9mg.
That was the good news but here's the rub re my ESR, also mentioned in my last post I had a urine test to check paraproteins in case of myeloma, came back negative. Then had serum electrophoresis and free light chains blood test to double check and they too came back negative. Felt good knowing no myeloma present! Now my GP said that the haematologist mentioned I should have a CT bone scan and bone biopsy due to my erratic ESR as I could have MGUS! Now my last ESR blood test level was 45, the same level as 2016! To be diagnosed for MGUS you have to have paraproteins in blood and urine, I don't and all my other blood tests are all good so am totally fed up. Seeing as I have two autoimmune disorders you'd think that they may play a part in my erratic ESR. My CRP has always sat at above normal range too except for the occasional foray into higher numbers when unwell!
Sorry for the long winded post but I'm feeling a bit on the defeated side of things!
