Peculiar Sensation

SheffieldJane profile image
44 Replies

For a couple of days now I have had the sensation of a hair on the end of my nose, but there is nothing there. I looked on the internet and found something about neuropathy on a blog. Failing that, it is a cobweb from the spirit world apparently. Has anyone has this odd but annoying sensation?

Yes. Itchy innit! And sticking my shaver up my nostril seems to work.

Yes Jane, I get this feeling and just give it a good rub!

I get it occasionally - no doctor seems concerned so neither am I as it’s not a regular occurrence and short lived when it happens.

That's the worst! My sister plucked mine out and I could have hammered it into the wall and hung a framed picture on it!

I get it...I don't see these things, like yourself and then when someone points it out...I immediately see a head-film of all the people I talked to with that long black hair waving in the breeze.....🧔🏻 xo

I get the feeling of a cobweb across my face from time to time. I'm sure it is something that has been discussed before - so not uncommon.

I have enough proper cobwebs -indoors and around my car wing mirrors thanks without adding any from the spirit world!

I got some very peculiar information when I did the search. Including marijuana use.

Yes, often in the summer. I find antihistamine cream helps.

I will try that. It has been 2 days now. Thanks!

I was so surprised when I read this post, Jane. I think I feel one in the smile line (notice I didn't say wrinkle) on the right side of my face. I've been thinking hair...but cobweb fits because I grab at it..and nothing is there. OH BOY, how I wish it was the only thing on my plate.

I'm thrilled learning it is a shared thing...and not a mental event. xo🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Yes I have. Also sensations on my hands and arms as if a small insect has landed

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply toDontwannabesick

The blog talked about those sensations too. A Neurologist had given her the name which was a kind of neuropathy that implied small.

Dontwannabesick profile image
Dontwannabesick in reply toSheffieldJane

Is neuropathy a side effect of pred please?

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply toDontwannabesick

It can be a side effect of autoimmune diseases such as Lupus and Vasculitis (GCA is a form of Vasculitis, the jury’s out on PMR). It is particularly associated with Diabetes.

It doesn’t come up very often, sorry to add to your anxious afternoon with my silly hairy face.

Oh, and forgot to mention the tiny hair on the end of my tongue !

Oh! you win, that does sound annoying and peculiar.

It's irritating to put it politely.

Scats suggested an antihistamine and I think it has worked.

I'm already on lorotadine long term.

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply toDontwannabesick

Ahh! I used to get a sort of fizzy tongue with Pred. I wonder if it’s that. Not really like a hair though, which I have had for real, from my toothbrush and it is horrible.

I posted on similar sensation three months ago healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk...

Both cobwebs and hair on tip of nose has been an irritant for months. I am putting it down to onset of hayfever (haven't had hayfever before), since the extent of irritation can vary considerably, as does pollen count? The sensation can disappear for a few days even, bliss!

I missed your previous post somehow Marilyn. I could have written it except for your specific meds. Very helpful to me. I am prone to choking with my swollen neck and have permanent hay fever symptoms, never having suffered before. Suppressed immunity maybe. I think I need to sit in the garden and empty my mind. It’s hot in Yorkshire.

Hi Jane. I now am convinced the swelling on neck was an allergic reaction to Nitrofuratoin or that the drug was causing me to retain water. I had flagged this up with GP about five months previously but she convinced me to stick with it. After a year taking it I tested my theory and went without Nitrofuratoin for two days. Within twenty four hours the neck swelling, that was beginning to cause difficulty swallowing reduced significantly (I had a neck!) And within forty eight hours My leg swelling had gone down. In four days I had a waist and went down a dress size! I was peeing too, so am convinced it was water retention caused by Nitrofuratoin. I am taking a different daily antibiotic now for UTIs and still have a neck, waist and legs are no longer enormous. So get checked out re swollen neck and choking. It could be a response to one of your drugs. I assumed it was pred induced, but obviously now I know it was not. If you try hayfever meds it might help with the cobwebs though my 'cobwebs' also significantly reduced without Nitrofuratoin in the mix. X

You might not if they turn out like the ones Fife has had overnight - Glenrothes had 4 inches rain in an hour and the picture my daughter has posted taken while driving to work has lightning that looks like xmas lametta!

Marilyn1959 profile image
Marilyn1959 in reply toPMRpro

We literally had downpour with thunder and lightning about two hours ago. I cannot believe the amount of rain in half an hour! It has definitely cleared the air, must have filled the reservoirs too! Hopefully it hasn't caused too much damage though! I'm glad I wasn't driving at the time!

We had a huge, house rattling, thunder storm on the meteor shower night, I slept through the whole thing and I love storms. It’s still muggy.

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply toMarilyn1959

I get no UTI symptoms since I gave up Adcal. My swollen neck is definitely Pred. It went away at higher PMR doses and has returned since GCA. I am going to try a hay fever tablet for the odd cobweb sensation.

Me too! There is always the Meteor Shower to look at from 2am to 5.30 http /apple.news/A9zFaLW20Tq-N7eoObfFwCQ

Sorry I expect Apple’s barbed wire fence is preventing the link from sharing. It had clouded over at 2 am so no Meteor shower, then I was asleep for the dramatic storm.

Yes! The other odd sensation I get is that it feels like water running down the outside of my leg...so much so that I put my hand down & check! It’s very bizarre & id love to know why it happens. Same sort of feeling as an insect walking down your leg/on your skin, but min brain says it’s water running down it. Feel so stupid when I keep checking & leg is always dry!! S x

Well, my word, PMR Pro, I have all those symptoms & never thought they may be related to each other! I thought the rest of them were related to the PMR or the FM or etc etc...my GP said last week that it’s difficult to get a ‘clear picture’ with me as lots ‘going on’! That’s amazing..now I know it’s not in my head, phew! I did have one of those ‘dye injected’ Myelograms after a car crash, too, which they say could cause it. So glad I mentioned it now! S xx

Once while waiting to cross the street I looked down because I was convinced a dog had just peed on my right foot. I felt the warm and wet sensation very clearly.

No dog. No wet. But I had just left physical therapy about an hour before where my previously-badly fractured-always-problematic right ankle had gotten both a cortisone injection and an ultrasound treatment. I thought well maybe this is some circulation returning or something. My ankle was much improved after that. The experience gave me a good laugh.

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply toSusanEleven

It’s exactly like that! Each time I’m still convinced there has to be water running down my leg! I reach down with my hand, thinking I’ve caught my leg on briars & it’s bleeding or....I don’t know...the water just has to be there...and never is! My brain won’t accept it, however often it happens!! S x

I love the image of a cobweb from the spirit world! It certainly fits for me. I have this feeling which I have described as feeling like ants crawling on my face. I have this sensation over my whole face at various times. One day it could be around my eyes, the next around my mouth or cheeks. I had this for some time prior to my GCA diagnosis last September and always thought I had developed an allergy to my cat and stopped nursing him, poor thing. However, since taking Prednisolone I found it didn't come as often and started nursing the cat again much to his confusion:) I've mentioned it to my Rheumy and GP and they listen very attentively but have nothing to contribute. It can be very disconcerting but I'm learning to live with it and give it no attention. And now I will picture the fairies spinning their webs! So thank you!!

I think I’d prefer that to the real hairs I'm finding 😂😂😂
