Hi there, me again, my last post was a couple of weeks ago regarding headaches, cheek pain etc, I had my blood test results, my ESR was 7 and my CRP was 12.5, at first the receptionist said my CRP was 90, I said that's as high as when I was first diagnosed with PMR, she went away then came back saying sorry she had made a mistake and it was 12.5, God knows how she managed to get that wrong. She said the doctor said everything was normal and no further action was needed and that I wasn't having a flare. Since then my headaches have calmed down a bit but the last couple of days I've had a painful scalp, it actually feels like it's burning, I felt like putting my head in the freezer last night. I've also had neck , shoulder and arm pain on my left side and right under my shoulder blade for probably about a month now and my thighs ache a bit in the mornings. I was due to see a rheumatologist in May but obviously couldn't see him but had a telephone appointment, at the time I was feeling quite good so he said I didn't need to see a rheumatologist anymore, I was just to deal with a gp, the problem with that is you never see the same doctor and they are not as clued up I'm PMR and GCA. With the scalp pain im obviously concerned about GCA, can anyone tell me if scalp pain with GCA feels like burning. I'm still currently on 11mg pred, I didn't want to drop any lower just yet.
Burning scalp: Hi there, me again, my last post was... - PMRGCAuk
Burning scalp
From a personal view - no mine didn’t feel like it was burning - just extremely tender to the touch.
One cause apparently is stress, but as you’ve have issues with your left side neck/shoulder/arm I think it warrants further investigation.
Thanks for your reply, I'm going to ring the doctor again on Monday I think
I tried to ring the Dr yesterday but I was number 24 in line, I waited for 10 mins and was still 24 so gave up and emailed the rheumatologist instead for advice, I wrote down all my symptoms and got a phone call today with an appointment tomorrow at the Nuffield in Oxford, hopefully it's not GCA , but I'm glad they are on the ball and seeing me straight away, I had an eye test yesterday including an MRI type scan, he said my optic nerves looked healthy but my eye sight was a little worse due to age, though I'm only 54 but had noticed i needed to use my reading glasses a bit more.
Mine was both tender and felt like there was acid just under the skin. However, shingles can do this as can neck problems such has sternocleidomastoid inflammation/stiffness. I may have bored you with the latter before, but it certainly made me think I was having a flare and gave me facial and ear pain as well.

But yes, as DL said, perhaps get your old problems looked at.
My GP recently said that my CRP had gone down, as I had the results, I pointed out it had gone up! She said ‘only a little bit’, I then pointed out that it had gone up 60%. She then said ‘well if you want to look at it like that!”
