Have I (just) over done it?

DogAgilityObsessed profile image

I’m two weeks in to taking pred. None of the ghastly side effects and still feeling joyous to be pain free and mobile.

But I’ve woken today with my right leg in pain. Similar to some pain before PMR was diagnosed. I’m guessing I’ve been doing too much (I’ve been achieving close to 10,000 steps a day all week without trying). What do you experienced people think?

Sciatic? Trochanteric bursitis? Where is it?

It’s like the core of my upper leg. More bone ache rather than muscle. But bursitis also worse as I was back to sleeping on my back.

I suppose my trochanteric burstitis starts as a deep ache. And walking a bit far always wakes it up.

Quite likely! Unless you did anything specific to that leg yesterday which could account for pain.

Just ease off a bit for a couple of days and hope it goes away....and then lesson learned 😳

What sort of pain? What upsets it or makes it feel better?

I would suggest stop listening to the Pred Go Juice Demon which can cause you to feel invulnerable, especially after a joyous release of pain. Your description about doing it “without trying” rang alarm bells. Slow down and cut right back on activity, then build up slowly because your muscles are compromised by PMR and weakened by Pred. What you really have to avoid is going hell for leather, running into issues, upping the Pred just in case, feeling better then going back again, only to repeat the cycle. The trouble is damage can be delayed too plus the Pred effect is cumulative in my experience. And yes, there are those who keep running those marathons but they are very rare.

If it was me, I’d give it a day or two, take some paracetamol and see what happens, but a clearer description of your pain will help others decide whether you’ve got a flare, flogged the horse too much or both.

Is the pain in your leg waking you in the night? I had horrible pains in my legs at night and found I was taking only half the recommended dosage of magnesium. When I discovered it and took the full dose the pain went away. I now take 300mg of calcium, 45mcg of K2, 160mg of Magnesium, and 5000-1000 of Vit.D 3 at dinner time.

It helps so much.
