Rheumatologist query

After reading that many of you have had rheumy contact, I'm posting to ask if anyone had any recommendations for a good one in the NW or NE of England? I am based in Cumbria so I could potentially go either way (across or south) if I ever needed to get an appointment. Many thanks.

I forgot to add... is it a rheumy you would see for PMR and GCA or just PMR?

If your PMR is straightforward then most GPs can manage it. However, if for some reason it’s complicated, then probably better to see a Rheumy. For GCA a Rheumy should involved.

Are you after NHS or Private?

My NHS Rheumatogist at Dewsbury Hospital is absolutely fantastic. Really thorough and lovely manner. Her name is Dr Sabanathan and I can't fault the treatment I've received so far.

I see her for PMR but I would expect she would manage both.

Either NHS or private.

Gateshead QE or possibly Sunderland. jinasc is the person to ask for that neck of the woods! She founded and ran the NE charity until it was wound up last year.

Now, the way things are going, there could be another exit imminent!!!

QE at Gateshead are nearer to you and they have had people from your neck of the woods for a long time. Sunderland is fine...........avoid one I know.

If you need a name - send me a PM.

You may well be able to get rheumy appt at Hexham. Handier from Cumbria and more civilised. Ie you can actually park with out getting ripped off and find space, hospital and system run efficiently. Even my GP says avoid Carlisle!

Thanks for that top tip!! Is there anyone you would recommend that works out of Hexham?

I haven't seen a rheumy for a few years, so not up to date, but those from Newcastle often do a clinic at Hexham.

Hi, I’m seeing a Dr Ariyaratnam privately at Beardwood Hospital, Blackburn. He is very thorough, I am “ well impressed” 😁
