Helping to stay sane in lockdown

Hello, Since being in lockdown, we’ve really come to appreciate many of our national institutions a lot more ( in addition to the real heroes of course - NHS, delivery drivers, supermarket workers, teachers, care workers, bin men..... and so many other people we should be so grateful to).

I’m sure other people will have suggestions but we’ve discovered “National Theatre Home” which lets you stream (free) a different play each week. If anyone is interested, here is a link to the schedule - this week it’s Benedict Cumberbatch in Frankenstein , but they have a wide range from comedy to Shakespeare.

The Royal Academy is also streaming different art exhibitions - so far, we’ve looked at “Hockney”, and “Monet to Matisse”. I’ve even got my 91 year old mother ( who lives alone, 125 miles from me) watching on her tablet.

Here is a link to the Hockney exhibition

I understand that this might not seem appropriate for this forum, but anything that can relieve the stresses of isolation must help, eh?

I bought a ukulele on-line- very inexpensive, and even for a complete novice with arthritic hands, pretty easy to get some rudimentary tunes- not quite George Formby yet, but it keeps me busy.

Take care everyone. Xx

Hi all, we have had links to the national theatre and other national performance links put up previously as well as several other virtual and online tours. You can find many of them in the last few covid chats in the pinned posts and the maintaining physical and mental health during lockdown in the pinned posts.

Thank you! We will miss some of this attention I think, with the return of the hum drum.

As Poopadoopy says - these are all things that we did deal with at the start of the Covid-19 crisis and ran for some time. However, the purpose of this forum really has to be maintained as being for PMR and GCA as it is the very public face of the national charity and the decision was taken to restrict such things to the Covid-19 threads or, alternatively since demand for such information has reduced, such posts would be left but replies stopped as otherwise the moderating team do get overwhelmed since we check all posts and replies - the need for that devotion does become apparent at intervals!

HU itself started a separate Wellbeing community - a lot of similar options one hopes though I haven't time to look at it.

Accordingly I am stopping replies here - people can still read and like but not reply unless they use the private messaging option.
