For anyone who missed “Start the Week” (BBC Radio 4) last Monday, please listen on BBC sounds if you can. Very relevant to differences in male/ female responses to Covid19 and to auto immune diseases.

Facinating, thanks for pointing it out.

I will listen properly later but it is interesting. It came out quite early that women were recovering more 'effectively' once infected. I will have to listen in bits to maintain my concentration. 😳🌻

Of course, the unfortunate side is that because the female immune system is more effective, it also tends to over-react so we are more susceptible to autoimmune conditions.

Thank you so much for this link.

I have so far listened only to the first half and am very much looking forward to having the right sort of moment to listen to the second.

(I stopped to give my brain a little bit of a rest and make a cup of 'tea',)

Unbiased education about the genuine differences between men and women could do SO much to help us all - in the medical field as much as anywhere.

I doubt it is the medics at the coal face who are doing this research - medical scientists don't often have medical degrees, they use the info and numbers the admin collected. Women are generally more obese than men and some BAME populations, especially if they are poor have higher rates of obesity and diabetes.

You seem to have a somewhat strange vision of how "Caucasians" live - I could take you to places with high death rates where better lower-density accommodation is but a dream. As for why data - data can always improve future management of pandemics.

But undoubtedly males who are older, obese, with diabetes and cardiovascular disease do much worse than females when it comes to Covid-19.

Yes well you are in forum where people are at high risk due to an illness and treatment, not just a dietary issues. Please be a little more sensitive to others position in a forum aimed at them. Do you have pmrgca or take prednisolone or dmards? This is not the first time you have been making insensitive remarks and I ask you politely, please stop. Now.

Profile doesnt mention either pmr or gca so I doubt either is the answer. Maybe his opinions are better tolerated on the wellness forum when the moderation is more "relaxed" !! YBB
