Coronavirus & Prednisolone dosage.

Help please. If I catch Coronavirus, do I adjust the dosage of Prednisolone. Presently I have tapered over two years from 20mg down to 4mg.

I wouldn't adjust anything without Dr's advice in this instance. In terms of pred. The research so far from treating those infected is that it actually didn't help and high dose of steroids made some symptoms worse. But this was in otherwise healthy people.

But don't ever think of fast reduction or dose adjustment without proper medical advice.

The thing is nobody knows until people with similar autoimmune conditions start getting ill and data can be collected and analysed. The best advice here is to seek medical advi e in what is a fast changing situation.

If you catch Covid19 you do need medical input as an older patient with a pre-existing medical condition. And they should then make a decision on dosage.

I asked my GP that question on Wednesday, should I increase my steroid dose for GCA bearing in mind Covid 19, she said no to increasing dose better to be be continuing decreasing as normal. Keep safe and well. Lizzie

While your 4mg current dose should not increase your risk, take the necessary precautions. If you do catch COVID-19, get medical advice specific to your symptoms, making sure that your medical history is known to your treatment team.
