Thought this might be of interest as both subjects come up from time to time, although seldom if ever together:

Alcohol and atrial fibrillation
Mine was worse when I was in hospital and not drinking at all!!!!!!!
You sound like the local alcoholic with that comment!! YBB
I gather in France you sometimes get a mini bottle with dinner - not here though
There's an effort in parts of the US to improve school lunches, using the French model as an example of how to create a completely different and much healthier attitude towards food. I find it interesting that France has one of the highest consumption rates of alcohol in the world, but also one of the highest life expectancies!
I believe it is changing but it is thought that part of it is that the intake of alcohol is almost always with a meal - much as here.
A study in the UK has found that providing free school meals on the Jamie Oliver model resulted in lower BMIs in the children - which went up again even during a 2 week school break!

France and Spain high deaths due to alcoholic liver disease per this scholarly article.
It's nice to see that they have begun to do studies on these things in relation to particular conditions that affect the heart and circulation, not just for Coronary Artery and Heart Disease .
I don't have AF , but I do have a Tachycardia condition and I do notice a difference in my symptoms when I drink or when I don't drink at all.
I probably would have been classed as abstinent with occasional rare intake ( high days and holidays ) but since my Tachycardia symptoms got worse I find I will have more symptoms over a few days after even a glass of alcohol. I always felt a little more brain fogged or Fatigued before my cardiac symptoms got worse.
General pain also seemed to increase the day after having just one or two drinks.
I do take a number of medications but none of those require a ban on alcohol and my Chronic Illnesses do not suggest having no alcohol either , although moderation is advised for them all.
I think this study just helps me reinforce my thoughts on alcohol consumption and its potential effects and it will help to stiffen my resolve when I'm tempted to have the odd gin in the future. Is it worth it? Probably not for Me.
But then it could be very individual again just like anything from Opiates to Omega 3 !
And possibly the form of the alcohol or whether you have a glass of wine with a meal or a hard liquor like gin or rum as an evening libation.
Yes , that too , although I found my alcohol with a meal was one of the first to go , instant bloating , gurgling and the odd stomach ache , alcohol after a meal seemed to be the only way I could drink with no effects.
Fats and Carbs before drinking and a good amount of water before and after a night out in my youth . I now arm all teens with a belly filled with cheese sandwiches and a pint of water before they leave the house . Pre bed water , snacks and preemptive paracetamol on their return home have caused many an avoided hangover😋
It sounds like I'm being a big Mummy but in reality its for my own good as much as theirs , it means I'm not woken up and stressed out in the middle of the night by self imposed poorly people bumping around and searching for a drink and a sick bucket.😂😂😂
Although never a very big drinker (alcoholic mother to thank for that) i have found that since pmr i haven't felt like drinking even the odd glass of cider, my favourite drink. I now just have a sip of OH'S drink.!! Luckily no heart probs so far but veqry interesting article. YBB
