Finger / Thumb bruising.

Does anyone suffer from finger/thumb bruising? I watched my thumb turn rapidly purple a week ago with swelling..a few days later it died down..and today exactly the same thing has happened again. It is tender and a bit numb.I can’t recall bashing it at all. I am on 4 and a half mg Pred.

It was probably mentioned in a post a bit back but for the life of me I can't remember what it is called! Got it - Achenbach's syndrome!

If you keep getting bruising like this you do need to discuss it with your GP and get it on your medical record . It may be a side effect of more fragile skin with steroids but it can also be something else that needs its own advice.

Thank you so much..I think that’s a good idea,I shall take a pic of it as no doubt by the time I get an appt ..it will be in perfect condition!

I get this too and always thought it was connected to my Raynauds Syndrome. This is when the fingers (and sometimes toes) go white and numb due to cold or vibration(steering wheel does it for me). The lack of blood circulation weakens the blood vessels and makes them more likely to bruise. This can be painful or itchy (sometimes both at the same time) and your tender and numb description is perfect but not the burning sensation described in the Achenbach Syndrome mentioned earlier which is a new one on me. An interesting read though now I've done some research.

It's nothing to do with the pred. in my case. Ihad it many years before PMR.

Oh thank you for replying..it does help to build a picture..and also to eliminate as well. 😊

Hello. I got that a lot when I was on the Pred. I could sit and watch the blood bleeding into my fingers. Extremely painful. It has stopped now thank goodness.

Thank you Swotty..it’s a weird sight isn’t it? I watched my thumb turn blue and swell in about 3 minutes. It was numb and tender but at the moment it’s stiff and painful.
