Hi All ! Does anyone else seem to injure themselves easily since having PMR ? Are our muscles easier to damage ? My Husband sometimes pulls the hand break of my car so hard I can hardly release it. I was having terrible pain in my left hand and couldn’t work out why ? Then realised every time I had problems with the hand break it would happen. This week I have done something to my knee it’s a bit swollen and very painful to walk, but can’t remember twisting / jarring it. I’m using hot and cold pads and it is feeling better.
We are off to visit my Son in Costa Rica and I’m hoping the warm weather and some ocean swims will help my PMR. I’m going to up my Pred to 10mg for a couple of weeks and then drop back down to 7mg when we get back.
I Hope everyone is as well as can be and coping with January!
Love to all ❤️

Yes, definitely. I was pretty fit pre PMR but 5 months in I started having all sorts of injuries- sacroiliac, then groin. Like you I wasn't aware of doing anything out of the ordinary to cause these! I had physio and try to stretch and walk every day but rest helps.
I could trip over nothing before the pred helped. I have had bursitis in my knee and elbow just from old injuries or repetitive movements (elbow was throwing the ball for the dog!). I am sure a lovely holiday will help.. Enjoy.
Sympathise with the handbrake issue. Fortunately I’m the only driver normally, but if any man (son or garage mechanic) drives car the brake is always very tight. So not very often.
Mine is due to arthritis not GCA - but then I have problems with opening jars etc -thank goodness for specially designed thingamajigs (technical term obviously)!
Costa Rica and your son! Exactly what the doctor ordered! Beautiful photo - hard to believe that somewhere in the world it’s like that.
My husband tightens jars etc so I can’t access them ( not deliberately) I have bought a device now. There needs to be a reminder on the handbrake for your OH - a sticker?
Hi Jane, yes I struggle with jars too ! So frustrating if you are on your own ! And I wouldn’t be able to open a bottle of wine with a cork ! ( only buy screw top now 😘 )
Yes I find am easily straining muscles especially in my shoulders!did some energetic gardening the other weekend and it caused a massive amount of pain from which am still recovering
You’ll love Costa Rica 🌈I cycled across from Puerto Limon east coast to Playa Hermisa west coast 222miles last Nov for charity amazing country v clean
Yes I find it easy to strain muscles/tendons & have arthritic hands/knees which are not PMR related. When buying a new car 3 years ago the salesman wisely suggested an automatic..... wonderful !
Yes it is much easier to strain muscles. My physio. puts it down to the constant underlying inflammation of PMR just waiting to leap into action at the slightest opportunity!
Definitely. I was a runner (and hope to be again 😄). I ended up needing months of physiotherapy for what seemed like atrophy in my upper legs and groin. My hands are now very weak and I pulled a muscle in my neck just turning around. Have a wonderful time in Costa Rica, it sounds lovely!
In the early days of PMR I was always straining something in just daily living. After almost 4 years I find my hands don't work very well. My grip is the one thing my Rhuemy checks twice a year but never comments on. At higher doses I felt very weak and couldn't walk very far. I'm better now and can walk half an hour at a time. It's verrrry slow going with PMR.
