It has been recommend that we lock our posts. How do I do that?

To lock a post, when you are writing a new post you will find a bit at the bottom asking Who can see my post? You can choose if it to be anyone or just other members of the PMRGCAuk forum. A locked post will still appear on a google search but will only allow non-members to read the title and the first line of the post with a message that you have to join the community to read more.

But anyone can join the community - and see the post. There is no screening of applications to join HU or the cammunities on it.

I never lock my posts - I'm happy for anyone to read them. Locking a post is only of limited value for security and you need to be sure that you don't post anything sensitive.

If you want a 'Secure' Post, then send a Private Message. I also tend NOT to lock, my 'Posts', on here or our Allied Forums.

In fact some time ago a member of the HU help team told me they prefer we not lock our posts so that the information is available to everyone. I have only locked a few of mine, ones which I was certain I only wanted members of this community to see, mostly because the content would be irrelevant to anyone else. Like our posts about Christmas and New Year....

So agree. Isn’t the whole point of the Forum to share our experiences, give info if we can and reassure that we are not on our own? 😀

I discovered Patient forum because I googled a question I had and was taken directly to a relevant and helpful thread. I'm sure it was through Patient that I learned about HU but don't remember exactly how.

I advertised it at one point in respone to one of the dreadful "new improved" versions!

It probably was someone mentioning it. I joined HU not too long after Patient, but actually used Patient quite a bit more until they managed to destroy it with the major "update" from which they seem unable to recover. Pity.

One reason for Locking a Post (which l always do) is to keep it within this Forum only, even though as Pro says it can appear in a Google Search.

We have in the past had experiences with Members of other Forums rather over contributing to Posts on here.......

The choice is yours, mine is to keep it within the Group otherwise the option to Lock The Post wouldn’t be available.

But all anyone has to do is join the group - and HU tells them that if they access a locked post! And as we know - they do!

Oh we certainly do but my preference is still Locked 🔒

I have been on more than one Forum eg Breast Cancer, Fatty Liver plus Others & believe me you can come across some strange & wonderful ‘contributors’

My Husband is on a Tinnitus Forum & joined ‘Men’s Health’ as it was recommended......

All l can say is Don’t Join....... 😳
