Response re Julian's "Of Topic"

Have been out for a couple of days so away from computer.

Reading down the headings I came across Julian's post - since I am in full agreement I wanted to reply - but found replies had been turned off!

What a draconian OTT action (to my mind - I'm moderator on a couple of forums, have been for years, and wouldn't take that sort of action.

I joined this forum 2018 when OH was diagnosed PMR/GCA having found it via search engine. I had no trouble finding the info I needed in the following weeks even though there were various light-hearrted off topic posts.

In fact I found the forum more inviting because of them; it's now become somewhatdry despite Aunty Bee's efforts.

Probably to be deleted

To all you exes. I did not like all the carrying on before there was a stop put to it. So as I always say "opinions are like belly buttons....everybody has one". Get over it and move on.

“Probably to be deleted” - why post it then?

There have been numerous answers from the Moderators and Admin about posts that are “off topic” explaining that first and foremost this is a health forum, and as such that is their priority.

There is no problem with light hearted posts (I know, I’ve posted a few through the years), but they need to be PMR or GCA related to follow the charity’s guidelines (not the Moderators’ whim which some seem to imply).

If any one has a problem, they can contact one of the Admin members - details above, but it’s really not helpful to air grievances (perceived or genuine) on the open forum - particularly for new patients who are trying to find answers to their problems.

P.S. I may have “volunteer” after my name, but that doesn’t mean I have any clout on decisions to be made - but after almost seven years I think I can say I do find this kind of back-biting extremely childish.

I wasn't "back-biting" - I was stating an opinion.

Fine, wasn’t suggesting you were - but others have been recently.

Thank you for your comments Nuff1.

As Candy mentioned in reply to Julian's post the other day

if you have any concerns about how the forum is managed it is always possible to contact an administrator. Your concerns, as raised here, should not form part of a general post. As administrators we will always aim to respond to queries within 2 working days.

We have people arriving at the site who may be distressed or overwhelmed with a diagnosis or worried about symptoms and they come here for health advice and support. Our moderators and in general the community as a whole is supportive of this.

As a charity, our concern and aim is to help people with their symptoms and on their journey with either of the conditions.

I'm really pleased that this site was helpful for you in the early stages of your wife's diagnosis and I hope it continues to be.

I would politely ask you to read through the guidelines and determine whether you are able to abide by them. Our guidelines are in the pinned posts.

I am now turning off replies to this post, and hope that we can move on to posts that are helpful and relevant to PMR and GCA.
