I am not sure if this is related to PMR but over the past few years my feet have become quite sensitive to the slightest pressure from socks. I can manage this in the summer (obviously) with sandals/crocks.
I have been unable to move from summer mode this winter and have still been in bare feet and crocks (Luckily I run hot).
So, a few days ago I searched for some foot shaped boots and found a very expensive pair which I order for me for Christmas. They arrived this a.m and I am sitting in them now. They're very comfortable but....I need loose fitting (over the toe area) short trainer socks to wear with my new boots and am looking a Diabetic socks but....these seem to be loose around the ankle. Does anyone have experience of these types of socks and is the sensitivity down to PMR? (I have vague memories that it might be).

I have tried a few so called diabetic socks or seamless socks over the past few years and non helped that I could find. I now just turn my socks inside out and that helps. My shoe size has increased for 6 to 7 to 7 to 8. Try some slightly larger socks. Not too big or they bunch up, and wear them inside out. Mine turned out to be neuropathy and the meds have really helped but I tried everything first.
It just seems to stop the seams digging in quite so much. It was a friend who suggested it and I found the usual store bought socks could be worn without feeling the pressure on sore toes from the seams. Like everthing it may not work for some. 🌻
Sorry I'm going to look back in your posts and check but do you have Fibromyalgia as well this is a common symptom of that.
It is also possible to get Peripheral neuropathy issues as a side symptom of Chronic Pain issues like PMR or using steroids.
Do you take Magnesium supplements ( as part of a multi vitamin/ mineral or separately) or use a Magnesium lotion or spray at night on your lower limbs , hands and feet?
I've not used diabetic socks but do have compression socks or ankle / foot compression supports that are toeless which helps to reduce the tingling for me without causing that painful feeling of constriction over the toe area.
I have similar gloves with touch screen and removable finger tips for my hands as well.
Like you I have battled against that trapped painful toe feeling for years ( even as a child I never liked my feet tightly tucked in bed) unless toes were free and socks were loose but then ended up with numb toes or , personally , also got more chilblain like issues happening in Winter.
I am also being monitored for Raynaud's now . So it's both circulation and neuropathy for me.
Glad to be of help. I've got several pairs of their shoes plus plenty of socks, though I haven't tried those particular ones. Their products aren't cheap, but they perform very well and last for a long time.
I'm not sure I would have described it as sensitivity but I did have very painful feet in the first few years of PMR but it improved once I went onto pred and hasn't returned. My shoe size also went up at least one European size - I have one pair of shoes in perfect nick but even with thick socks they were too big. Before PMR (I think) my big toes were tender to touch on the outer side at the middle joint, there was a bump a bit like a Heberden's node on the outer aspect. That is also gone but while it lasted I wore Birkenstocks and thick socks! Rain was a nightmare. The soles of my feet also went through a phase of feeling as if they had been sandpapered.
I use magnesium pidolate as a magnesium supplement for the arrythmia problems and it doesn't seem to have the same gut effects as other versions.
