AIP diet, Moringa use

Would like to know if anyone has been successful using Whole30 or AIP diet? If so are you also on medication? Has it helped to reduce the dosage of the med? I am also trying Moringa and was wondering if anyone else has used it. Thank you

I fear anything that is trumpeted as being a "miraculous superfood" arouses every fibre of scepticism in my being!

Many of us who avoid carbs find that certainly helps the symptoms in that we notice it when we have a splurge for any reason. Does it get us to a lower dose? I don't know.

Occasionally people tell us they are using the AIP diet. Either they don't reappear or they tend to give up because it is VERY difficult to stick to. If it were so good for PMR - I'd expect them to be telling everyone else.

It looks like Moringa may slow down how fast the liver releases prednisone. The problem is a lot of herbs have not been properly studied in their interactions with drugs. I have not tried it.

AIP in its simplest definition is defining which food may cause your body to have an inflammatory response. Of course many people have jumped in to try to make some money off of this simple idea. In the end , we are all different with different food sensitivities, different gut micro biome and different in how we respond to stressors. I have a list I have compiled over 4 years of food that “might” cause me trouble so I steer clear of them. When I ignore it and eat whatever I can count on having a bad day coming up.

Just curious how soon after eating a food that doesn’t agree with you are you seeing the reaction?

Hi,

If I start getting lazy with my diet and eat food I probably shouldn’t it just slowly builds up until day 3 or 4 I feel a GCA flare coming on. Some things are quicker. One of my problems is food with tyramine. One day I drank a bottle of kombucca and within a couple hours I had a headache. The same with chemical fumes and food preservatives and additives. So basically I keep a simple clean diet, low in sugar, gluten and carbs and that is when I feel best and have more energy and an easier time tapering.

Best to you💕.

I tried avoiding nightshades, carbs, dairy, grains, and sugar. Even caffeine at one point. Still do limit nightshades and cheese, but sugar is the only thing I notice that gives me temple pain after eating. Within an hour. A little is ok, but a piece of pie or a candy bar? Have to limit it to less than that. Salads & veggies are divine. Feel so good after eating those! I've only tried Moringa chips...lol.

Before getting PMR I did try Moringa as a food supplement, to boost my intake of greens.

Gave me the trots! Ditto Inulin and Turmeric.

Don't use any of them now I'm on Prednisilone but do take a good probiotic, make my own kefir and eat fermented foods, mainly to help with acid reflux and IBS.

A few months after I was diagnosed, I did the AIP diet for thirty days. Before I tried it, I was experiencing terrible heartburn and regular upset stomachs after starting prednisone. After the 30 days, the heartburn and upset stomach was gone. I started adding back in foods to see what I was sensitive to and was really stunned to learn what bothered me because I'd been enjoying them all my life -- nightshade family , nuts and legumes (including coffee). I switched to tea, can have a very small and occasional amount of cashews and don't eat nightshades -- this combined with a low carb diet and I've lost 20 lbs (the first 10 of which I gained right after going on prednisone). Overall, I don't think anything is a miracle cure but the 30 days of AIP showed me how much what I ate influenced how I felt and it helped me find what foods helped me feel my best.

I have followed Whole 30 for 4 years. I find it to be a reasonable way to keep carbs low and manage my weight, but I don’t think it makes a difference in the amount of pred I need. One thing I learned from abstaining from a food group and then reintroducing it in the Whole 30 system is that it can take up to 48 hrs for a reaction to show up.

Whenever I stop sugar, white flour and most dairy I FEEL 100% better. Not sure I lower my prednisone any faster but I can feel the effect. Also I feel much better not eating meat. I try to have a Green smoothie. kale/spinach, banana, blueberries or strawberries and a protein powder everyday. I love it and I believe in it and since I am totally a placebo dispenser's dream.. it works! Also I have lost the extra 14 lbs I gained initially on prednisone. Had come close to diabetes... but managed to go back to my normal 10 lbs battling all my life weight.! good luck! (I don't STICK to this but I always try!!) I will NEVER give up the coffee. Don't have too much..but I can get rid of alcohol (sugar) much more easily that coffee. !

I have no dairy at all and a green smoothie for breakfast, and avoid nightshads in their raw state

3 cups of Spinach

Whole Papua or 1/3 of cantaloupe melon

1 cup of fresh orange juice

1 cup water

Teaspoon of pea protein

This gives me lots of energy throughout the day
