Does one stop Methotrexate when you reach one or zero of prednisone?
Think that’s a question for your medical team and your specific circumstances.
The consultant who put you on it is the person to ask. I think a lot wait until you are entirely off pred and then taper off the mtx too - but not immediately. But they all have their little ways
Hi Celebrant
I’m actually at Clinic tomorrow, so if l’ve time l’ll ask but my personal understanding is, we are only prescribed it as a ‘Steroid Sparer’ ie to get our Prednisolone down, once we have reached Zero (l can only dream) there would infact be no reason to take it.
It’s a drug not without its side effects, so my educated guess would be we’d stop it as l said above for us it is for us ‘A Steroid Sparer.’
Kind Regards
MrsN
unfortunately, I think that is part of the problem--3 superegos working to try and be the brilliant one!
Hi. I have a pred taper plan at which point I will taper the methotrexate over the following months.
At least this is what I was told at the start....
Two weeks ago I was taken off Methotrexate, no need to taper, having been off pred for 2 months. I no longer have to take Alendronic Acid either. So far no ill effects at all. Good luck!
Hope you are doing well Penelope 🌷🌷🌷
I started a methotrexate reduction programme when I got down to 3mg of pred in the spring. The first reduction was from 25 mg to 20 mg and after 12 weeks I started to reduce at 2.5mg every 10 weeks. I'm also on 10mg of leflunomide daily that has been maintained. I've also had 2 reductions of pred and am now down to 2mg. So far so good
