Children’s nasal flu vaccine precautions

Hello all,

My dear grandchildren are having their annual nasal flu vaccine soon and I remember reading that those of us who are on pred and immuno suppressed should avoid contact for a while, as it is a live vaccine which can be ‘shed’ due to sneezing for instance. Have been searching for info on how long contact should be avoided, without success. Can any of you wise people advise?

When I used to give it we were told to recommend a week.

Here’s something

This says about Fluenz 2-3 days is peak time for shedding but for seriously immunocompromised people 1-2 weeks is advised.

Thanks again. May not be able to avoid them for longer than a few days as I’m needed to cover when daughter at work. Will talk to her about possibilities.

under safety and side effects.

Two weeks is the time they say - but actually we are probably not at that much risk judging by the examples they give for being immunocompromised.

Actually never thought of the hordes! Have been trying to teach my granddaughters to cover their mouths when they cough and not to sneeze in people’s faces for some time now with limited success 🤧

You are, I trust, teaching them to sneeze and cough into the crook of their arm? :D

Would be happy with any improvement really but that would be optimum 😕

When middle child was small he had a constantly runny nose. (Eventually we learned it was probably something to do with a built-in humidifier in the furnace, which we'd thought would be a good idea but turned out not to be.) I made little terrycloth sleeve covers and for a few months he wiped his nose on those because otherwise his clothes got into a disgusting state. I can't believe the things we have to do to raise our kids.

And now you have a beautiful grandchild whom you’ll do anything for I’m sure 😍
