Hi LLo7, I found the combination of PMR and pred made gave me terrible headsweats. They Def reduced. I have one occasionally now at 6/7mg but not as intense.

I had this symptom at around your dose. Mostly during the day, literally dripping sweat at the slightest provocation, even joining a new playgroup with my grandson - but the stress was there. The symptom bothered me less in bed at night. I sleep with the window open in all weathers and often have my feet out of the covers. In summer I have a fan blowing across the bed all night.

To my dismay at 4 mgs, the symptom has returned. This time after exertion, such as changing the sheets ( unthinkable a few months back). Stress can be a factor but it’s mostly the unaccustomed exercise I am now able to do. I’m wondering if this is now related to my Adrenal function. I don’t really mind, it’s just a bit embarrassing if I am caught in a muck sweat by others. It’s nice to be able to do the household tasks. Just don’t hug me in the middle of housework. I guess this too will pass. I used Poopadoop’s recommended cooling scarves on holiday. I wonder How Mrs Nails’ designer ones turned out, filled with cooling crystals and hemmed?

Jane, you should know me by now, it’s still a work in progress πŸ˜‚

I’ll get some made for next Summer now the beautiful Autumn Mornings are here & the sun is not so strong.

Hope you’re feeling OK? I’m off to see the Rheumatology Nurse this morning to see how l’m getting on with the Methotrexate & if it’s affecting my liver or not! πŸ™πŸΌ

Thank you for asking. I managed a lot of leaping about on holiday, bending and lifting caring for two tiny grandsons and saving them from our villa’s swimming pool and treacherous rocky play area, accidents. It is amazing what I could do without ill effects. A timely gift really.

Broken hearted now. They are in the air flying back to Australia, as we speak. Determined to taper to 3 mgs and hopefully have my final Synacthen Test. Maybe, Maybe I’m on the home stretch. Good luck with your liver tests!!!

Wow! Well done SJ. Wonderful to have your family around you. Feel for you that they are on the way back. Mine only live in England but I only see them once a year (in person, that is, as we skype every two weeks).

Take it easy for a while now - you deserve it.

Yes me too and I am on 15mg.

Hubby saying how cold he is and wants winter duvet back on and I’m dreading putting it back on lol.

I would say worse than the menopause too.

Good luck,

We have 2 single duvets - I have the thinnest I can find all year round, he needs a slightly warmer one for most of the year and adds a blanket in winter. It started when he had cancer and was on chemo, he was permanently freezing in the hottest summer Scotland had had for years! PMR just makes me warm all the time!

I so agree with you , we are having the winter duvet discussion, my solution at the moment is the spare bed is vacant if the OH wants to use it !

Hi there bird.

Regarding duvet cover. When I started with my menopause, whoooo many moons ago 😁 I bought two single duvet covers for our double bed.

Hubby liked the winter togs and I kept the summer weight. Saved a lot of tug of wars too.

I still sleep with the light weight duvet.

I found that feather down pillows made me perspire dreadfully. I now put a soft towel on my pillow.

The other day I went out to our local shopping centre and suddenly I had one of those sweaty days. My hair was drenched and I really felt bad.

I looked like I had just stepped out of a sauna. It's most definitely the pmr...

I'm still on 5mg Prednisone.

Keep a small face cloth with you in your handbag. Much better than tissues. The tissues don't mop up the same. πŸ‘

You are the first person I've come across with the same solution! Not counting Germans of course who also tend to use single duvets. So much easier to wash and iron as well!

Hi there PMRPro

Definitely more practical indeedo. πŸ‘

We have single duvets too! OH rather rotund and I often woke up cold having much less than my half share of the KS one! Single size really came into its own when I was having lots of waking night hours on the higher doses of pred. I haven't used a low tog duvet since living in France where hot summer nights were HOT. The waking nights began recucing frequency at about 5 mg thankfully.

It's extraordinary how we vary in our responses to pred. I've had plenty of classic side effects, insomnia, rampant hunger, thinned skin and others, but I've never had a problem with sweating or overheating. Mind you, I never had any problems of this kind during the menopause either, so maybe I'm just not made that way.

β€’ in reply toMarijo1951

I wasn't a 'sweater', then I had the Epstein Barr virus at 40yrs and it was like someone glued a sprinkler to my head. And it stuck withe through diabetes, menopause and pmr....If I stayed over night at friends I had to take a massive towel to lay my head on otherwise I left a head shaped stain. Mortifying.

PMRpro profile image

I had sweats with PMR and no pred, they improved with 15mg pred, I was lucky, I don't think I get them as a side effect of pred, except possibly when I was on methyl prednisolone. And they do seem to indicate if I'm flaring or have something else going on as well. Mine are mostly around my neck.

On the hottest night when you are in the middle of a sweatfest grab hold of your other half and pass that heat on. πŸ€—

I am lucky I have the bed to myself. On one side I have a 10 tog and a 1 tog on the other. I tend to roll across the bed to whichever quilt is needed. πŸ₯΅πŸ₯Ά

You could always grab the dog , in the Winter he'd probably enjoy a hot , sweaty cuddle!πŸ˜‹

β€’ in reply toBlearyeyed

The dog runs hotter than me. They have a higher body temp and my usual body temp even in a head sweat is under 36.

Had my worst experience in the cinema, actually looked like I had got out of the shower and not bothered drying, very embarrassing at the time, now getting used to people looking at my fat face, silly walk etc etc. Eh oh the joys

Bless. It's horrid isn't it. But I convince myself no one is looking at me....*\0/*\0/*

How do people wear makeup or moisturizer? The minute I apply it, my face and neck glow with sweat. And that means I am then mopping off whatever I applied or it is all over my collar. The rest of me is fine.

At night I, too, have a fan, plus the ceiling fan on, one foot out...

Carry a lot of tissues in my bag. Wiping away the sweat.

β€’ in reply toDianeA1

I had to stop. Otherwise I looked dreadful. My hair always gives the game away as it goes ringlety at the bottom as it gets wet. Like alvertta...I carried a wipe. I find kitchen roll doesn't dissolve as easy and I can if my hand let me. I saw a fan that plugs into your mobile yesterday......

Blearyeyed profile image

No make up anymore , unfortunately.

I take some time for my face to cool after washing or a shower and sometimes use a tinted moisturiser and a little powder and concealer if I'm up to it.

The more organic make up brands are in my make up bag for when I really feel up to it , and although they don't last as long and need reapplying sometimes , they don't cause the same sweats or the itching , stinging or drying that can happen when you skin is affected by steroids.

Lush products are nice.

I sweat constantly. On 21 mg. GCA. I blame is on the prednisone

Rimmy profile image

Horrid - I used to wake up in Summer mainly on higher doses of Pred drenched through - my whole nightie - I could have literally wrung it out a few times. This has reduced remarkably - now on 11mg - my lowest dose ever for PMR&GCA and it is lots better - so whether a side effect or part of the whole deal as long as it is not as bad i am over trying to decipher 'cause and effect' a lot now. I used to get so frustrated weeding the garden with water running like a tap over my face and sunglasses so I could hardly see a thing- ridiculous !! So don't despair - like lots of other cr**p that goes with all this it will eventually subside ....

Now for really important stuff and off to the Climate Strike !!!

Rimmy profile image
Rimmyβ€’ in reply toPMRpro

'Rugby' !! even in OZ - and many are sports insane here - we managed a reasonably good turnout. 100K in Melbourne alone - though where I live I'd say around 1200 with a 30K population. Best thing though was to see young people seriously engaged with the future of the world - just hope it isn't much too late - I try to be optimistic !

Unfortunately the very shouty teen who kept jabbing her finger at the audience hasn't been a good ad in the rest of the world I fear - very reminiscent of a certain dictator when he got excited.

Been very impressed by many others though.

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyedβ€’ in reply toPMRpro

My OH is very annoyed with the Friday protests , and I understand his point

( he's a working teacher ) because he doesn't see why you can't do the protest at the weekend so everybody can take part and it doesn't affect people going to school.

His classes were empty of half of the teens this afternoon that he knows fine well were only using the protest as an excuse , pretending they were going , but with no intention to attend at all.

A lot of kids around Britain today , bunking off , with no one knowing where they might be lurking.

Unless their parents had their Instagram details , and got a shock!

Thing is, most of Europe finishes school about 1-1.30 ...

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyedβ€’ in reply toPMRpro

Is that just on Friday?

Or is that the lunch time ? they have a long lunch don't they but stay in until after 5.30 or is that just France and Spain?

Most of the kids at my husband's school were off all day , with no intention to strike , the ones he knew were really interested stayed in school in the morning and got permission to take the afternoon off , I'm impressed with their maturity .

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassadorβ€’ in reply toBlearyeyed

No, all Germanic countries finish late lunchtime every day, not sure about Italy. We caught the 1.20 train here the other day, 1.30 at the town and hundreds of high school kids got on heading home so they had finished well before that to get to the station. They start at 8am at the latest and get tons of homework. No-one complains, it is part of the system.

Saw a few big groups of school kids walking into to city centre..

I am so glad I am not the only one suffering from this.

I will definitely take in a few tips from you all.

I am not sure about the single duvets yet, don’t they leave a gap in the middle of the bed? I am a cuddler so don’t think they would work for me and my hubby.

My hubby has COPD and is always cold so really not looking forward to having to use the central heating this winter 😠

Patience_1 profile image
Patience_1β€’ in reply toBird-67

No, we have single duvets and they wrap around each of us (can always unwrap when wanted!). Another huge benefit is that they are much easier to deal with when it comes to changing the bed linen. When I have to change the double duvet on the spare bed (luckily not frequent) I need a lie down!

Bird-67 profile image
Bird-67β€’ in reply toPatience_1

Thank you, I’ll have to suggest that to hubby.

The standard UK ones are a bit small I think but we have Ikea ones that are larger. But they overlap - and cuddles keep you warm anyway!
