Hi, My Husband injured his knee, nothing major he just hit his knee in the floor as baby grandaughter herself herself backwards as he went to pick her up.

The next day it was swollen like a large egg, GP did immediate blood test to make sure it wasn’t infected but thankfully not.

So it was ice, we used a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a cloth & kept refreezing them (don’t eat them afterwards though) for about 20minutes at a time, try to keep your leg up, lay on the sofa & put your foot on the arm rest.

It’s Bursitis, funnily enough called Housemaids Knee but tends to be a condition men suffer with more than women.

Hope it’s better soon 🍀

His long Did this last ? Thx mj

It was a very gradual recovery because he didn’t ice or rest it enough. He still has a very small area that’s still swollen.

It took about six weeks to recover before he could return to the gym to get fit enough for the Crown Green Bowling Season!

What work do you do , does it involve alot of physical activity or is it more office bound?

If it is a standard swelling injury , bursitis or a strain it can take 6-8 weeks to fully recover , but you can also explain your circumstances at the GP or Hospital and ask for crutches , advice and possibly compression knee socks or a brace if this appropriate for the type of injury and that does help you manage to get up and mobile quickly .

If you are up to it and can cope with the crutches with what you do you could manage to be back at work in a few weeks or less ( although be prepared from my current fractured ankle experience I know that getting about can be more tiring than this sort of injury was before ) .

If it is still very swollen and hot the ice pack or cold compresses can reduce the swelling quicker as well as keeping the leg raised on a chair in front of you at 90 degrees to your hip.

Massaging in Arnica cream or lotion after a warm shower can also bring out the bruising quicker but you need to make sure you can use Arnica products with all your medications and you skin isn't sensitive too it.

Something like Dermacool or Biofreeze lotions rubbed in before bed can keep it cool and more comfortable as you try to go to sleep.

Just like the Arnica check you are ok with it , a little test on the back of your wrist usually does the job.

Doing anymore than that isn't advised until you know exactly what injury you have as recommendations for one injury may not work for another.

Good luck and let's hope it's not too serious

Sitting not An option I work for a airline. On my feet running 10 hrs a days. I be very surprised If it’s not bursitis. I had nothing to do the last two days but read all about it. Going wed to doctors.

That is unfortunate , I suppose even a front reception desk job wouldnt even be possible there. Looks like it's definitely getting a sick note for a few weeks then. So sorry x
