Diabetes 2 and Prednisolone

Hi, I have familial diabetes. When I started taking Pred for PR my hbac1 went extremely high. However I was put on a very large dose, this was last December. Despite not giving in to the awful hunger pangs my weight started to increase and I had fluid retention. I have been following a low carb diet, my hbac1 has come down as my Pred is tapering to a much lower dose, still working to get my hbac1 to a normal level though. No grapes, carrots or swede. Minimal carbs, rice and potatoes, breaded fish. Can eat plenty of meat and eggs and fish. Hope this helps

Hi Wayfair, just a quick question, are carrots bad for increasing blood sugar?

Depends how many you eat! They have carbs in them but far fewer than most root veg.

OK, I'm thinking about carrot juice? I've been juicing a few lately, not so many now, just wondering if that's one of the reasons my blood sugar is up a bit.

High carb, especially without fibre. It's one of my favourites but on the banned list. All fruits and vegetables are higher carb and high carb if juice. A nutribullet type whole juice is a bit better. That way you have the fibre too. But I wouldn't have it daily.

As Poops says - better to eat them so you have the fibre, juicing means you are effectively releasing all the sugar so when you drink the juice it shoots into the blood stream, They tell you juicing is healthy - no it isn't! Raw whole fruit and veg are much much better for you.

If you wanted to really get the gist of low carb then with fruit and veg you can get nutritional content per 50 or 100g online and it tells you the carb content and fibre (and vits etc. Technically you can subtract the fibre from the carb content and arrive at real carbs. So if a medium carrot has 12.6g carbs and 4g fibre, you can subtract the 4g so actually eating 8.6g of carbs. But most people find that is just too much messing about 🤑😂😂😂

My diabetic nurse explained to me not to eat any vegetable grown under the earth, this was when I got the low carb plan from her. Hope this helps.
