All symptoms of pmr please?

I was diagnosed with ra a couple of years ago.was first prescribed prednisalone for a few wks while sulfasalazine kicked in along with a few joint injections eg knees and wrists, kept it at bay on and off for over a year and then wham pain and inflammation came back.i am now on methotrexate injections along with sulfasalazine (oral did nothing).still have stiffness and inflammation in wrists and fingers, but the worse thing is the painful burning pain in shoulders that feels as if it comes from the bone and muscles, also the same pain in my glutes.this is normally worse at night in bed.its affecting my sleep.arms are a dead weight and my muscles feel really week.ive lost a lot of weight and always fatigued. Isthis a symptom of pmr.im asking as a couple of times in between changing meds I’ve had a short course of prednisalone which has taken away all symptoms, but as soon as they’re tapered off everything flares back up.

The fact that pred helps so much and the pain returns when it is stopped is a tyical clinical sign in PMR.

On what grounds was RA postulated? Is there imaging evidence of joint erosion? The trouble is the symptoms of PMR overlap with other things - and it is eliminating the other things that tends to leave a diagnosis of PMR.

Hi,

This might help a bit as well to give overview of PMR journey, although not specific to particular question -

Why did you have only a short course of pred, particularly as it seems to have worked so well? It seems awful you had to stop taking it. Does your doctor realise the effect pred had?

It sounds awfully like PMR, especially your positive response to Pred. This is often all doctors have to go on with diagnosis. I would be clamouring for a proper course of it.

Thank you all for getting back to me.doctor diagnosed ra after using ultrasound on hands.at the time there was a lot of swelling in wrists and knees too,on and off jaw pain and the shoulder burning pain.think the fact that my grandfather had it too,all added to the diagnoses of ra.the prednisalone was prescribed twice.once at start of diagnoses till sulfasalazine kicked along with kenalog into buttock and thenagain after a year when sulfasalazine stopped working and they added in methotrexate oral.when prednisalone tapered off after 4wks time pain and swelling returned.now on methotrexate injections with sulfasalazine but shoulders and glutes are getting worseand still terrible fatigue and more weight loss.also given another 2kenalogs which done nothing.
